Daylight Robbery: Ann Demeulemeester feather headdress

Ann-Demeulemeester-feather-Any crafters out there? Fancy knocking together one of these? Bit of chicken wire and a few feathers should do it, we reckon. Then we can call it a “feather headdress” and sell it to rich people for $781 – if we tell them it’ll look “edggy” and that it’s “designer”, they’ll definitely go for it. We’ll split the proceeds two ways and still have enough money for a nice pair of shoes each.

Now, who’s in?

Ann Demeulemeester feather headdress, £480, Browns

That is the most expensive concoction of wire and feathers found in the park I have ever seen. In fact, I don’t craft and I still reckon I could do better.

Oh, I imagine GaGa’s already worn it or something so close as to be the same.

As for the item itself, I’d expect gold wire and some exotic feathers for that much cash, not some cheap wire frame with cheap feathers attached to it. And I’d certainly expect more than 8 of the lousy things.

Hell, no less than 5 members of my family (crafting as a hobby and vocation for a number of us) could make something more attractive, higher quality, and less likely to make you look like a loon and still be able to sell it for an astronomical markup for a better price than they’re offering.

    ^-.-^

Is it April Fool’s yet? This must be some weird joke nobody gets… I mean: Have you looked at it in detail? The feathers are stuck on with DUCT TAPE for God’s sake!
Maybe this was made by the designer’s child in preschool, which automatically makes it a designer item by heritage or something… ??!!

calm down everybody, why do you all take it to heart? so it’s expensive, but nobody is forcing you to buy it, I’m actually very glad it’s pricey, that way I know my DIY version of it isn’t common 🙂
Ann Demeulemeester is a very talented designer (her clothes are great), and anyway Louis Vuitton bags are 1 billion times more ugly and people still pay a lot of cash for some silly logos ..so what ?:)

Umm, you actually sound like the least calm person here, Elle. Why does it bother you so much that not everyone has the exact same opinion as you do about a feather headdress? Aren’t other people allowed to express an opinion?

    Alasa

The problem with the internet and the blogosphere is everyone is able to have their comments heard not matter how untruthful or horribly wrong their comments are. I agree with Elle, you all need to understand who Ann Demeulemeester is before you make such brash comments. If you took a moment to look her up you’d realize that she is one of europe’s most respected and genuine cult designers who graduated from one of the most prestigious fashion design schools in the world. This particular piece is hand made, and the feathers are ostridge (very expensive).

You are all so quick to judge this piece of art and deem it a “rip off” when in fact it is hand made from very expensive feathers, limited quantity, but i’m sure you are probably the same people who go into a Louis Vuitton shop to buy a handbag (which are all actually made in factories in china – with the final stitches sewn in Italy so that they can fool you to believe that your $3,000 handbag purchase was worth the money) and feel you are getting your moneys worth.

No, the real problem with the internet is that people like you think that just because something is “designer”, no one should be allowed to hold an opinion on it that doesn’t exactly correspond to your own. For goodness sake, just because someone is a fashion designer and went to a good school, it doesn’t mean they’re above criticism and no one should be allowed to express an opinion unless they’re going to fawn over it like just another fashion sheep.

Can you even see the irony of saying that the people who don’t like this item are “quick to judge” and then instantly going on to say “you are probably the same people who go into a Louis Vuitton shop to buy a handbag”. You know nothing about these people so why so “quick to judge” them? (And for the record, nope, I would never buy a Louis Vuitton handbag – unlike you, I don’t think that because something has a designer brand, it must be AMAZING.)

“The problem with the internet and the blogosphere is everyone is able to have their comments heard not matter how untruthful or horribly wrong their comments are”

These are OPINIONS. They are about personal TASTE. People like different things, and it’s a sad thing when you’re not allowed to say you like or dislike something without someone trying to stop you. Free speech isn’t a problem of the internet, it’s a fact of life: I’m afraid you’re going to have to either try to understand that you are not the only person in the world who is allowed to have an opinion about fashion, or avoid the internet/life altogether.
