Style on Trial: Yves Saint Laurent Muller Tulip-Skirt Dress

There are tulip skirts, and then there are tulip skirts. Lately, what we’ve been seeing in the world of fashion is a whole lot of tulip skirts - skirts so wide you could camp out under them, and invite all your friends. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? We say it all depends on the dress or skirt in question, and on this occasion, the dress in question is Yves Saint Laurent’s ‘Muller’ dress, which will set you back a head-spinning $5,250. No, really.
Price aside, though, we want to know what you think of this dress, and more particularly, that skirt, which seems to be just begging for the question, “Does my butt look big in this?” to be asked about it. So tell us, do you love it, hate it, or feel nothing but indifference towards it?
I don’t love it. I don’t think her but looks big, but that band around the bottom is too wide…I don’t care for skirts quite that stiff, like if you bend over, everyone can see your business. And no way is that dress worth 5k. But I like the color. And if you’re trying to sell a 5k dress, how about ironing it a little? COME on.
not the most flattering cut for 5 grand…granted i hate the stiff belled out skirt look…no one should dress to inspire the nickname “Hipsy McHipson”
I wouldn’t wear it, but I don’t hate it. I really like the color, and I think the right person could pull it off. Not worth $5,000 though. Very little in the clothing world is actually worth $5,000.
I actually love the look of expanded skirts and panniers. I’m thrilled to see them on the runway.
Definitely a sci-fi dress.
I like it, but wouldn’t wear it myself.
Reminds me of a black ant.
Hate it! Looks like a carousel, or like there’s a biiiig breeze blowing up her dress.
I love the colour, and would certainly admire it on a runway or in a mag … but wouldn’t wear it for practicality and comfort.
Oh yeah, and the $5K pricetag is a smidge out of my budget.
It isnt half bad. If Anna Dello Russo wore it to go to a show I believe it would look positively amazing. It is very dressy, and somehow a little to girly for my tastes. Don’t like the large bottom band though.
