Style on Trial: Boots pretending to be (sequined) socks, by Viktor & Rolf

Viktor and rolf sock shoes Style on Trial: Boots pretending to be (sequined) socks, by Viktor & Rolf

We're all familiar with the crime of fashion that is Boots-Pretending-to-be-Socks, but what if the socks in question are encrusted with sequins, like these Viktor & Rolf numbers? What then, readers? Is it still a crime of fashion, or does the presence of so many shiny sequins serve to distract you from the fact that your socks are still stuck to your shoes.

We THINK we know what the answer to this question will be, but then again, you've surprised us before, so we put it to you know: what do you think of these sequin sock/shoe combos by Viktor & Rolf? Would you convict or acquit them of crimes of fashion?

(If you want to acquit them, you can buy them at Colette, where they're $655.)

  1. I am afraid I kind of like them. Very practical too. If you want to wear sequined socks, I’m guessing you can buy them somewhere, it would be uncomfortable to actually walk in the socks. This way, it can still be comfy.
Otherwise: I am of course entirely against socks-attached-to-shoes in general.

  2. Well, i am thinking a 100% sequin sock will be somehow uncomfortable even for the bravest fashionistas:) So if you badly want that look for one reason or the other (and i am sure there are enough reasons, but i can’t think of one right now), that’s the only way to do it :)

  3. Well… I’m not a big fan of all-over sequins in general. They make a nice accent, but sequins all over ANYTHING is a bit much. So as much as I like the shape of the shoes sans-sock, I’m going to have to say I’m really not liking these things. But then, I don’t like shoes-attached-to-socks, or sequins, so I’m biased.

  4. But why do they have to match the sequins and the color of the shoes???? Nobody does that with their socks! Especially fashionistas. And socks with high heels? Come on.

  5. They’re the first socked shoes I’ve seen that aren’t pointless. I would not wear a sequined sock because it’s too uncomfortable, and also there’s not many shoes that sequined socks would look better in.
