Reem dress Style on Trial: Reems mai silk dress

This is what you get when you cross a flapper girl with Big Bird. Yes, we know it's white, not yellow, but lookit:

Reem maxi dress Style on Trial: Reems mai silk dress

We've put this one up On Trial because going by the first picture alone, we thought it had the potential to be really quite beautiful. But has that potential been realised? Up to you to decide, readers: but if you decide you love it and want it, you can head over to Koh Samui, where it's available for a wallet-busting $1,215.

  1. um…gosh, I really love it, but i can see how it might be unflattering. Still, I’d like to see someone willowy try it on. A mannequin just can’t do it justice. And I can just see some hollywood no-nothing making the bodice fitted, thus by turning it from a magical fairy-like frock to a weird flamenco wedding dress.

  2. I can’t decide. I like the bottom half, but the way the straps hang on the shoulders makes the top half look a bit like a sack. Maybe different straps at the top? I don’t know. Something isn’t quite right, IMHO.

  3. It’s kinda nice…but it stops at a weird length. I think that if it was like full length or kinda short like a mini dress it’d be amazingg

  4. I agree with gokarm. On the right person (slim and flat-chested) it would work…though it would still be hard to do it without going all the way into flapper dress-up territory.

  5. I can imagine this being worn on Strictly Come Dancing! It seems a bit confused to me, like it doesn’t know what kind of dress it wants to be.

  6. Hm…I like it in theory. But I think just the right person has to wear it and rock it with confidence, or the top just ends up hanging. I love the bottom though, and do actually like some of the little details of the dress.

  7. Sitting on the fence here.
Am liking the carefree ruffles at the bottom.
The bodice part is confusing me. Is that a trompe l’oeil effect with the chains? Is the fabric sheer?
    It’s making me anxious now.

  8. Talk about ill-fitting…
I don’t care if that’s the “look” of the dress – the embellishment at the bottom is eventually going to weigh down the shoulder straps to the point that they will snap and the gown will go sliding down to thew wearer’s ankles!

  9. To quote Tim Gunn, it’s a lotta look. I don’t like it on the mannequin. Way too much bulk at the bottom. I agree with the Fashion Police, it looks like Big Bird bonked a flapper.

  10. ahhh i luuuurve thiiiis, if I were like 6′ I would buy it immediately and wear it… around my house? Well, I guess I’ve done stranger things. It’s gawjus.
