River Island, New Look and the mysterious case of the ruffled bow skirt

OK. Now, we have no idea who came up with this design first, but we think we're going to have to place both River Island and New Look on a warning here, because seriously. Seriously. Is it just us, or do these look like lampshades from a particularly cheap bordello?
If we absolutely had to wear one of these, we think we'd go for the New Look version which, at £20, is £10 cheaper than River Island's attempt, and also much less.. ruffled. We're just going to cross our fingers, though, and hope nothing DOES happen to force us to wear one of these: what about you?
It is pretty in pink meets dogs dinner. I see what they were going for, but the River Island one looks really cheap. Perhaps more the thing for an eighties themed birthday party.
I think they’re actually cute.
Don’t kill me, lol.
They’re kinda rockabilly…well, I’m hoping the bows go on the back.
I knew I’ve already seen it somewhere!
I think the “original” design was worn by Blair Waldorf in Gossip Birl, lookie here: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_EcYgAOhPYlo/ShtIAgE-BLI/AAAAAAAAEpM/vsl2rTcRP-4/s1600-h/GG223_03a.jpg
It’s Tibi’s Ainsley bow-front mini skirt -
I think this looks classy on Blair, and the design is a lot better without the annoying ruffles of the knockoffs.

i love it. a lot.
I would like this if it wasn’t pink. I’m a little embarrassed to admit that now..
I like the River Island version. The New Look version looks cheaply made to me. But I think the design is cute. Though another color option might be nice.
Hell, what is it with this season’s fashions? If it isn’t the skort/culotte revival advising me of apparently being the only girl over the age of 12 in the 1990s who enjoyed wearing them, it’s the above part-time ra-ra skirt, prompting recollections of me in a multi-coloured tiered affair when I was a kid.
Since they’ve gone this far in breeding a monstrous hybrid, I’d suggest taking the toned-down bow/front-pelmet thing from the New Look design, and crossing it with River Island’s tulip-style skirt.

I’m ashamed to admit it, but it’s exactly like the bottom half of my year 10 formal dress (circa 1984). The top half was a black taffeta strapless top, with a pink bow to match.
… and to think I threw it out with the confident rationale that it would never be in fashion again …
