They look cheap and plasticy. I am not surprised that they don't hold up well. Seriously, plastic? Come on.

ouch!
MATT & NAT has been around for 12 years and yes we had our fair share of start up problems including quality control which have been resolved.
Without getting into logistics, R&D and the costs of using recycled materials...there are brands that do synthetic bags at every spectrum of pricing...including nylon bags that are well over $1,000...
as far as terms as veganism and giving back go, these are not just buzz words for us, but a way of life....
I hope some questions were answered here, including the fact that we're not only available at HOLTS!
If anyone has more questions, I can be found on twitter....PEACE!

you two make fair points.
i have the hamburg, the last one pictured, but have not had any quality issues.
i do not know the production costs involved in manipulating plastic to make the bags so i cannot comment on whether or not the prices are inflated.
their new line is called samsara, and the prices are suppose to be lower.

You think $165 is reasonable for a purse? A plastic purse? Handmade of quiviut (musk ox down. They harvest it off the bushes the oxen shed on) and personalized with gold thread I could see, but PLASTIC?

Matt and Nat bags are horribly overpriced and poorly constructed. I worked in a store that carried them from when they first came out until they became "high end" and wanted to be carried by holt renfrew exclusively.
We had lots of problems with them mainly because the bags are just plastic..made in china but they just attached buzz words like "vegan" in order to sell them. many of the styles would fall apart very quickly. boo matt and nat. and also a big BOOOO to the new cheaper line they are producing call sam sarah.
