Fashion Police Fraud Squad: Valentino Vs Paris Hilton in the case of the red bow peep toe shoes

Valentino-bow-peep-toes3

Oh, Paris Hilton, shame on you! Don't you have enough money as it is without having to copy other people's designs?

These 'Senorita' pumps from Paris Hilton's shoe line aren't a direct copy of Valentino's high heeled sandals in that one's a slingback and one's a d'orsay pump, but when Shoeperwoman directed our attention to them on Friday, we couldn't help but think that a bit of "inspiration" had been taken from the designer shoe somewhere along the line.

Then again, the idea of a bow-fronted peep toe is hardly a new one, and neither is the concept of high street knockoffs, so maybe we should go easy on Paris (or the people who design for her), who's only done the same thing as many others before her? What do you think?

I have a pair of shoes that look exactly like this.. which I bought at least 5 years ago!
This kind of design is actuually kind of common, the big tacky bow is everywhere.. I don’t think she stole the design from Valentino, just ripped off an already very common one!

  2. Jori says:

i don’t know, what makes the valentino shoe unique is the bow, its not a normal bow on the front
i hardly could call it a coincidence that paris hilton’s dreamteam came up with an identical characteristic all on their own.

I’m going through Dress of the Day withdrawals here.

  4. It’s funny you should say that, Janey – I think that’s the first nice thing you’ve ever said about Dress of the Day: in fact, I seem to remember you being its biggest critic :)

  5. Victoria says:

ironically, i like Paris’ version better. The slingbacks don’t do it for me for some reason.

  6. Sarah says:

I think the fact that the bow is almost exactly the same (size, shape) as the Valentino number makes it look more like a ripoff and less like a variation on a common theme. I bet a shoe like this that wasn’t patent leather and had a different style of bow would be really cute.

  7. janeyp says:

I only critique the dresses, never the feature. It was my absolute favorite.

  8. The Fashion Police says:

So you never wrote, “Your dresses of the day are getting worse and worse. I’m dissapointed”? Because whoever did used your email address, posted from your IP and certainly didn’t sound like they were enjoying DOTD.
The problem with people who only ever comment when they have something negative to say is that they create the impression that they really don’t like something. When enough people do that I will assume the feature is unpopular, and I will repond to that negative feedback by pulling the feature.

  9. Squib says:

I prefer Paris’s design, much to my own surprise. She (or her minions) have got that shade of red just right for the patent leather material: it is jolly and bright; just skirting the accusation of looking cheap.
By contrast Valentino’s shoes are a bit too sombre, especially for that strappy, ribbony style.

  10. kwas2b says:

Actually, Valentino does have the SAME pump, not just the slingback. In fact, I’ve been looking everywhere for the Valentino pump in gold, and I just came across the Paris Hilton one (she has it in gold, too). It looks exactly like Valentino’s. I don’t like a copycat, but I can’t find the Valentino shoe anywhere, so I’ll have to settle for the Paris Hilton version. I hope I don’t feel too sleazy when I wear it, knowing the truth.

  11. Shoe lover!! says:

    These shoes are hot!!

  12. cathy says:

I love this style so much, I splurged for the Valentino ones in black and then when I saw the Paris Hilton version, I bought them in red. NOT KIDDING, the Paris Hilton ones are WAY more comfortable and recession proof!

  13. E. says:

I never read that discussion. I miss DOTD!
