Ileana Makri earrings: the most expensive safety pins we’ve ever seen

Safety-pin-earrings

No, this isn't a Daylight Robbery post: those "safety pins" are actually made of 18K gold, and those are pavé black diamonds on the clasps. Oh, and they're earrings. £1,995 earrings. That just happen to look exactly like safety pins.

So, what do you think of them, then, readers? Would you pay that much to look like you'd threaded a pair of fancy safety pins through your ears? If you would, you can buy these ones at Browns.

hmm…punks wear safety pin earrings…but would they pay that much…doubt it…would people who have that much money buy safety pin gold and diamond earrings…doubt it

  2. gokarm says:

Wait…how do they go on the ear? Horizontally? Like, you put a safety pin in your ear and close it and it sits horizontally on your ear? OR do you go all the way up to the loop and let them hang askew…personally I’ve never seen anybody wearing a safety pin as an earring, not even punks. And I worked fast food, I know about punks.

When I saw that price, I almost passed out.

  4. Whit says:

I did the whole safety-pins-as-earrings thing when I was in high school and I don’t think I could ever go back, even for gold diamond encrusted safety pins…

  5. Einah says:

I could easily make these with some gold paint and fake rhinestones for $5. It’s stupid.

  6. Anna says:

Well, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

  7. Natasa says:

I have a soft spot for punk fashion so of course I’d wear them! If I had that kind of money, of course…

  8. Bethany says:

If I’m paying that much for jewelry, I want something pretty.

  9. Rock Hyrax says:

If you’re going to make ridiculously expensive safety pin earrings, at least make the colour of the pin match the claspy bit – or did they think people wouldn’t pay the extra for white gold or platinum?

  10. Diandra says:

They’re kind of pretty, but how do you wear them? I’m guessing the black diamond part hangs down, but wouldn’t that make a bulge in the back of your ear? Hmm.
