American Apparel: perfect for pregnancy, apparently

Americanapparel

We can't say for certain, of course, but if The Fashion Police were pregnant, we can't help thinking that the last thing we'd feel like slipping into would be one of American Apparel's spandex unitards. (Not just because we're led to believe pregnancy involves a lot of trips to the bathroom, and we don't think we could be bothered having to get more or less undressed each time.)

Then again, The Fashion Police AREN'T pregnant, and one of the last things we feel like slipping into is… one of American Apparel's spandex unitards. So maybe it's just us. AA, however, in their infinite wisdom, recently launched an advertising campaign in which they point out how "perfect" their items are for pregnant women. We reckon pregnant women should probably be the judge of that one, so tell us folks: what do you think?

Nope, I agree with you. Pregnant or not, ’spandex unitards’? Bad.

  2. Sophie says:

Also, what is with the legwarmer things?

  3. aymee says:

all I can think of when I look at that, pregant version or not is camel toe/wedgy from hell!

What happens if the time for the baby’s arrival comes and you are wearing something like this? Like the woman in the picture, just by looking at her, it makes me feel kind of uneasy.

  5. Heather says:

Having been pregnant 3 times I can say absolutely NO. Just think about the best reason not to wear leotards in general (the need to go to the restroom suddenly becomes much more complicated and uncomfortable) and now multiply that by about 1000. Pregnancy =pressure on bladder= LOTS of trips to the restroom and LOTS of times getting dressed and undressed. No thank you.
Not hat I would EVER wear a spandex unitard to begin with.

I’m pregnant now and there’s no way I would wear this. Maybe they have other things like t-shirts that are fine, but a unitard is the last thing I’d put on.
I have to say though, this is one of the few AA models that doesn’t look like a crack whore!

  7. Lisa says:

I am also pregnant right now, and I would not put one of those on if someone paid me. I prefer loose and flowy to having someone able to see my every bump and lump blaring through tight spandex.

  8. Arielle says:

I’ve also had three pregnancies and will chime in with a “no way in hell.” Not only is it fugly but it’s completely impractical.

  9. Amber says:

I’ve yet to see anything from American Apparel that looks good. Of course I’ve only seen their banner ads.

  10. Celeste says:

Yeah, my friend who is pregnant gets up to pee at least every 2 hours. The unitard is a terrible idea. But AA does have some jersey dresses and tunic tops that could be great maternity wear.

  11. chocoholic says:

    Maybe if I was a pregnant 80s aerobics instructor…

  12. Veve says:

chocoholic: hahahaha, funny but I actually had a pregnant aerobics instructor (not an 80’s one thou..) and I dont think she ever wore anything like this. it was more tank tops and shorts (guessing cause of the bathroom issue).
but you know for the same reason I’d never buy a playsuit. I might think they look cute and I like how other people wear them but I have a tiny bladder and thus it’s out of the question..

  13. Rock Hyrax says:

    Are those “support” legwarmers?
