Style on Trial: Diane Kruger at the ‘New Year’s in April’ dance

Spl93905_006[1]

Good ol' Diane Kruger can generally be relied on to wear something attention-stealing on the red carpet, but what we want to know today is, did she steal your attention for good reasons or bad ones?

Here she is, attending the Friends of New Yorkers for Children 'New Year's in April' Benefit in NYC last night, wearing a feathery lilac creation in a style we've been seeing rather a lot of recently. Feathered dresses often tend to draw Big-Bird comparisons from our readers, and we can totally understand why, but what do you think of this one? Crime of Fashion or innocent of all charges?

I think this dress would benefit from some editing. There’s too much on the shoulder and skirt. I’m not convinced less would be better either…but…you know what I DO like…the mix of purples, rather than just a solid pastel lilac…yawn. I dunno, I really don’t. I wouldn’t wear it. I’ll leave it at that.

  2. Riali says:

I quite like it, feathery bits and all.

  3. Rock Hyrax says:

I think the Fashion Police can overlook this one – they have far more serious offences to deal with…

  4. Evelyn says:

If the skirt was unadorned (long? form-fitting?) the feathers up top would be fine. As it is, however, it looks like she was involved in an explosion of candy floss.
    Lock her up!

  5. Theresa says:

Reminds me of something out of Dr. Seuss

  6. CJ says:

Generally I am solidly opposed to dresses that make me think of ostriches and emus, however this dress is the least offensive feather dress I’ve seen thus far. If I could just stop thinking of large birds, I think I could actually, possibly, love this dress. Ostriches are rather distinctive and graceful come to think of it.

  7. Natasha says:

I think it would’ve been far less offensive in a more serious color. This way it’s just overkill.

  8. Celeste says:

It’s a bit too much. But also sorta of cute and fun. Unless she starts wearing feathery things everywhere, let it go.

  9. nj says:

if i saw her in person i’d have to scream KAW and run away

  10. Melanie says:

    It’s fowl!!!!
    sorry, couldn’t help it :)

  11. Sarah says:

I actually like it on her. If worn by someone less classy, this is overkill. But because she has poise and is overall pretty classy, she actually looks cute in this.

  12. Jaz says:

I think it looks great on her but if it was on someone else it might be horrible.
But I think she looks great!!

  13. Bethany says:

I think it would be better with, say, five layers of ruffles on the skirt, and three on the shoulder instead of the feathers. The general outline is good, though.

  14. T. Rulz says:

The skirt has a few too many feathers, but since she’s kept everything else plain with no big accessories, she can pull it off (just).

my 6 yr old sister saw this and walked away
a minute later she comes back with one of her old barbie
it was wearing practically the same thing
i honestly could only find one difference-the dress was a shade of purple with a bit more pink instead of just lilac
