Just another footnote! Cutout fashion today is precise cutout in different areas to enhance a shoulder, a waistline, or a collar . In the 80's , you simply tied your friend to the bumper and dragged them down the street in their new Levis to see how frayed and beatup you could get those jeans. Then wear them to school to look cool.

Now , if you look at the legs of Ms Geldoff you can see a pattern and balance of cutouts to create a laddered illusion down the leg. If this was the 80's, you would see one slash down the leg one direction and maybe a slash across the ass and then another rip lengthwide down the other leg. What you are seeing is another dimension in fashion that is in its infancy.

Ladies! This isnt the slash fashion of the 80's with Helmut Lang. Cutout fashion design is architectural fashion in patterns, symmetry, and the cooperation of cutout shapes to create illusions with the background colors. For example, wearing a turtleneck underneath a shirt creates the look of a contrasting neck and shirt. The same can be said with a shirt sleeve underneath a jacket cuff to show a different color under the cuff. That is examples of 2 dimensional cutout design. Three dimensional cutout design is different in that the cutout is within the garment such as an elbow or a shoulder cutout of the garment to isolate the color of the background garment. The 80's was the beginning of 3D cutout fashion because the knees of bluejeans were slashed out and the asses of pants showed the underwear. This new 3D cutout fashion of 2008 is taking the 80's a step further and cutting out in series or in patterns different shapes rather than random like the 80's. Does this help to explain the concept of cutout and cutaway fashion design. An example is the beautiful fur coat of Gaultier this fall. The sleeves were cutout along with the bottom of the jacket and also the hood to create a complete cutout look with symmetry and grace.

@ Eric Glennie
a) Just because a look is popular, doesn't mean it's good. As this clearly is not.
b) Slashed clothes and cut outs and cut away patterns have been happening for a lot longer than 15 years. It's just that Good Queen Bess wore a kirtle under her slashed sleeves, and Peaches here doesn't. They've been around in various incarnations for pretty much as long as clothes.

And once again the fashion policed laughed and made fun of Eric Glennie Apparel Designs. I said 3 years ago cutout and cutaway fashion designs would be all over the fashion world. This new style is an American invention, discovered in Minnesota 15 years ago. www.ericglennie.com
