Balenciaga’s pleated metal jacket: for the well-dressed ‘droid

Balenciaga jacket Balenciagas pleated metal jacket: for the well dressed droid

So far 2009 has been very much the year of the ‘It’ jacket (See: Balmain’s military style denim jacket for evidence of this). This Balenciaga effort, however, is not so much of an ‘It’ jacket, as as ‘What is it?” jacket. Mousy, for instance, who reported it to us, thought it was perhaps the discarded shell of CP3O from Star Wars. And if it is, The Fashion Police will have to take this incident very seriously, of course, and ask: HOW DID IT HAPPEN? Who killed C3PO?

We may never know. What we DO know, however, is that we’ll never find out what it looks like on, because it’s £3,260. What do you think of, though? Do you like this futuristic style?

  1. I tell ya, I do NOT get the Balenciaga asthetic. I guess if a woman wants to look like a futuristic banshee from hell, she can, but as for me, I’ll take Armani instead.

  2. Michelle got it right. It’s a slinky! Also I can’t help but wonder if the metal is somewhat protective. Like bullet/knife proof or something. At least then it serves some sort of purpose.

  3. I think the Balenciaga jacket is a wonderful, unique piece. We’ve all seen it almost a year ago in their fashion show, haven’t we? I inmediately felt that this kind of amazing, futuristic vibe could only be created by Nicolas Guesquière- a genious.

  4. Actually the “discarded shell” description means the most to me – it does look like those empty little things left behind by larder beetle larvae when they moult. So it would be quite cute if it wasn’t for the weird check pattern.

  5. When I first saw this, I thought: “I didn’t know they were making a new Star Wars!! I guess this is for CP3O!!” Then I realized us people were supposed to wear it.
Well, actually, it wouldn’t be too bad if it was all, say, gold, or all bronze, or all silver. Not saying I would wear it, I would just feel more…happy looking at it if it didn’t have that plaid.
    XD
