You know how we keep on thanking our lucky stars that harem pants don't actually seem to making it into mainstream fashion, despite appearing in great numbers in every store in the land?
Looks like we spoke too soon, because here's Jennifer Lopez, striding out proudly in her very own pair of drop-crotch pants.
The thing about this, though, is that although the crotch is close to her knees, which is an automatic Fashion Police penalty, the fact that she's wearing these with tall boots almost makes it look like she's just wearing a skirt. Now, we know the argument here would be, "Well, if she wants to look like she's wearing a skirt, why doesn't she just WEARÂ a skirt?" There's no arguing with that, but still, we're inclined to let J.Lo off the hook here: and those aren't words we ever thought we'd hear ourselves say.
What do you think, Fashion Police jurors? Is Jennifer Lopez guilty or innocent of crimes of fashion?

Huh. She’s not wearing a skirt? It really looks like it.. and like if she was holding up the skirt at the crotch area?!
Veronika -they are actually harem pants: there are other pictures of her in them which are more obvious, but unfortunately none of them were available via the image agency we use. The boots defitely make them look an awful lot better, though, I think!
Difficult to say – on the one hand, they look enough like a skirt when paired with those boots that you can almost let her off the hook… But on the other hand, just knowing that they are under there… lurking…
I say lock her up as an example to others!
Well frankly, I’ve never thought Harem pants were ALL bad. I saw some lovely examples from Yves Saint Laurent that were actually floor length…turned me around to them. Now, this is a perfect example of how to wear them. The boots are awesome and are enhanced by the harem pants. I really like it. Not Guilty!
GUILTY. From the first time I saw her, I knew what she was wearing.. but also, I thought how nice her outfit would have looked if she was wearing a skirt.
Sorry, but J.Lo doesn’t get a pass just because she’s J.Lo. If anything, she should get the book thrown at her because she’s a role model. Think of all those impressionable children, seeing her, dressed like that…
Won’t someone please think of the children?!
I think as long as she:
1. only wore them with the boots
2. only wore them because it was windy/chilly
then she can be given a pass, or maybe just a written warning. Though, it kills me to say that.. I’ve always hated ALL of the harem pants that I’ve seen.
On the evidence that’s been presented, I’d have difficulty throwing her straight into the slammer because it really does look like a skirt (and I think bunbuns may have a point regarding mitigating weather-related circumstances).
Given that the Fashion Police are based in Scotland, could we return “Unproven”?

those are about as guilty as they come. i’m sorry, but i have no mercy in these areas.
Call it a misdemeanor, because it does look like a skirt, which would have made it a nice outfit. I still believe that anything, even harem pants, can be done right. But disguising a tricky style as something more conventional is just cowardly. Either tough it out or don’t bother.

When I saw the heading, I thought: “Harem Pants? Surely J.Lo can pull off one of these?”
…I was wrong.
I don’t understand why this website has such a rage against harem pants. Really, they can really look good sometimes. Like here, it’s not horrible at all, in fact it looks quite okay. Seriously, I think they are just trying to create the movement against harem pants. Each time you see them you get crazy (no offence) but they really aren’t that terrifying, or something to make such a big deal about.
The website really isn’t supposed to be taken as seriously as that, Kikakola: it’s supposed to be humorous. No one is “terrified” by harem pants, no one is “getting crazy” about them (and I suspect you actually DID intend to cause offence with that, no?), so, to be honest, making such exaggerated claims against a humour website makes it seem that you’re the one making a “big deal” about the fact that some strangers on the internet don’t like a particular style of pants. It’s a sad day when people aren’t allowed to hold an opinion on something as trivial as fashion without being shot down for it.
