Style on Trial: Chloe’s high heeled wedge sneakers

Chloe-wedge-sneakers

WARNING! WARNING! We have an incoming "wedge sneakers" situation here, folks, clear the area!

Or, actually, do we have a situation with these? The Fashion Police are always quick to react when we see sneakers try to pass themselves off as high heels, remaining firm in our belief that trainers are for sports or casual wear only – they have no business growing heels, even wedge ones. No, we've always thought sneakers should just concentrate on what they do best – being cute n' casual – and let the "grown up" shoes deal with the high heels.

The thing is, though, we look at these See by Chloe wedge sneakers, which are quite clearly masquerading as high heels, and being as bold as brass about it, and… we don't hate them. That doesn't mean we'd wear them – hell, they're $266 for one thing, and if we're spending that much on shoes we don't want to be able to use the word "sneaker" to describe them – but they're somehow not pressing our buttons the way they normally would.

Have we just had too much coffee and doughnuts this morning? Tell us, readers, are the wedge sneakers a crime of fashion?

  1. Lee says:

I think they mite look hot with blue jeans, but i think anything else with it should be burned…

  2. Lee says:

They certainly aren’t as terrible as other bad things I see here. They could look quite nice with various outfits and they could look hideous with others. Until we find someone wearing them(like SJP with those split toed shoes) i think they are innocent.

  3. Evelyn says:

I would look ridiculous in them. Which means they are useless…to me.

  4. helen says:

I think the boldness helps here. I also don’t hate them. Definitely casual wear though.

  5. Carol says:

Crime of fashion? Yes. Definitely. Stick to decaf and bagels from now on, please…

  6. Kiesha says:

They remind me of the wedges Victoria Beckham wore when she pitched at an LA Dodgers game.

In the right setting they could be cute.

  7. E. says:

Oh my god, my eyes, they’re burning!

  8. Celeste says:

I agree that they’re not as bad as some of the sneakers as heels combos, but they’re still bad. I’d never wear them. Well, maybe in wear or die, but that’s it.

  9. Kerry says:

    AHHH! Are you guys kidding?
“Might be cute”, “Not that bad”, “I don’t hate them” ???
I think high heeled sneakers should stay in the early 90’s on the feet of Spice Girls, right where they belong!

  10. Natasha says:

A horrible, horrible crime! I was particularly disappointed a year or two ago when I saw wedge sneakers prominently featured in a L.A.M.B. collection. Posh has her ups and downs, but Gwen should really know better!

  11. chocoholic says:

    They’re horrid.
though how cute would be be as actual flat sneakers?

  12. manu says:

I’d wear wedge sneakers, just not those, and definitely not for that price.

  13. Rock Hyrax says:

They somehow make me think of golf shoes. And the sort of thing people wear when they’re touring London and want something sensible and casual yet neat and clean with a bit of a heel because trainers are meant to be bad for your feet and … oh throw the book at them!

  14. lea says:

Crime of course. But the beige ones… Even worse – believe it or not.

  15. Panthera says:

hmm.. Apparently I’m not fashionable, because I love wedge heels, and think these are rather cute. I do wish they’d been “feminized” a bit more, maybe by removing the big white sole on the bottom?

  16. DEBBIE says:

WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYBODY?ARE YOU KIDDING?THESE ARE SOO CUTE ID WEAR EM ALL IN FACT I HAD A PAIR THEY LOOK SO CUTE WITH JEANS….I LOOVEEE THEM!!!!

  17. Renee says:

Debbie, I couldn’t agree more! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my platform sneaks and I am always looking for new ones. They look great with jeans and Juicys. I am only about 5′ so every little inch helps, besides the platform or wedge is huge and so is everything 80’s. This look is just like everything else, you have to do it right. To be honest most of the time people don’t even know I have platforms on my shoes, but when they find out, they want to know where I got them. I wish I could buy more!!!!
