Dress of the Day: Dior belted ‘Madonne’ dress

Dior madonne dress Dress of the Day: Dior belted Madonne dressThis dress falls into the "So expensive it makes our eyes water" category, but it was one of Bergdorf Goodman's "Best Dress" list for Spring, so we thought we'd give it its moment as Dress of the Day, too.

It's by Dior, which does help to explain the $3,450 price tag, if not to completely excuse it. We love the draped detail at the front, the little nipped-in waist, accentuated by the belt, and the narrow pencil skirt.

It's one of those dresses that looks like it belongs in a black-and-white movie, but the bright red colour helps give it a bit of added interest, too.

If you like it, and aren't put off by the price, you can buy it at Bergdorf Goodman.

Daylight Robbery: Miu Miu’s ‘urban apron’ skirt

Urban apron skirt Daylight Robbery: Miu Mius urban apron skirt

At first glance, we thought this was a little boat-necked top.

We were wrong:

Urban apron miu miu Daylight Robbery: Miu Mius urban apron skirt

Yes, it's an apron. And, OK, aprons are fine. They're, you know, handy for those times when you're cooking or cleaning and you want to protect your regular clothes from dirt.

That's not what this one is for, though. No, this is an URBAN apron. Which apparently means you're meant to wear it outside the house. Oh, and to pay £272 / $379 for it.

Uh-huh.

We'd say that makes it a classic example of Daylight Robbery, because even supposing we DID want to wear aprons in public – and, just to be clear, we DON'T – we really can't imagine paying that much for one. Can you? (Get it here if you answered "yes" to that one…)

Crop Tops: they’re back. Will you be wearing one?

Crop top Crop Tops: theyre back. Will you be wearing one?

If ever there were two words almost guaranteed to strike fear into the hearts of women around the land, “crop” and “top” would be those words.

Let’s face it, the crop top just isn’t an item anyone can wear, is it? We’d argue that you don’t have to be skinny to wear skinny jeans, and you don’t even have to have the figure of supermodel to wear some of the “bodycon” dresses around at the moment, but you really DO need a belly you’re not ashamed to show in all its glory if you want to work the crop top.

(We’d also argue that you need a love of 80′s fashion that goes well beyond the odd pair of leggings, but that’s another issue altogether.)

This is a look that’s neither forgiving or particularly flattering to many figures, but we’ve spotted more than a few little midriff-baring tops in stores recently, so we’re thinking we’d better either get used to them, or hire some new recruits to help deal with the increased numbers of them we’ll presumably soon be seeing around.

What do you think, readers? Will you be welcoming crop top back to the fashion fold, or are they outright  crimes of fashion?

(The one shown above, by the way, is £14 from ASOS.)

Pictured is Lisa Appleton, who appeared on UK Big Brother last year. This isn't her out running to the shop because she's run out of milk, either – this is what she wore to Liverpool Fashion Week. (Yes, Liverpool has a Fashion Week. No, not everyone wore pink tracksuits to it.)

You'd think her boyfriend, Mario Marconi, would've said something here, no? Maybe a little heads up? A quick nod to the rear? It would've been the kind thing to do. As it is, though, The Fashion Police had no option here but to swoop in and make an arrest…

Oh, Chloe, just stop it, would you? Stop making handbags we love, but just can't afford, OK? Seriously, we didn't even KNOW we needed a white leather handbag (and if you'd told us we did, we probably wouldn't have believed you, either), but along you come with your Paratay shoulder bag, and bam! One more thing to add to our Wish Lists.

If you'd like to add it to yours too, it's £970 from Net-a-Porter.

Dress of the Day: floral print bandeau dress from New Look

Neew look floral dress Dress of the Day: floral print bandeau dress from New Look

This isn't a dress that everyone would be able to pull off – or would even want to – but inspired by Amy Winehouse's recent court appearance (her outfit, that is, not her assault charges) we think it could be a rather cute little summer piece. Either wear it Amy-style with peep toes and a little cardi (beehive optional), or dress it down for cooler weather with tights - it's £28 from New Look

Shoe Porn: Dune’s red polka dot ‘Lotty’ peep toes

Dune polka dot shoes Shoe Porn: Dunes red polka dot Lotty peep toes

Spring is in the air here at Fashion Police HQ. To celebrate, we're thinking a pair of Dune's 'Lotty' peep toes would go down nicely with a pair of capri pants, or a summery dress, or jeans, or a skirt, or… you get the picture.

They're £85 and you can buy them here.
