Celebrity Style on Trial: Gabriella Cilmi’s ‘necktie’ dress

A strange thing: we were almost 100% sure we'd already arrested this "necktie dress", but we've just had a look through the Fashion Police cells, and it doesn't seem to be there, which makes us think it might have escaped and attached itself to Gabriella Cilmi here (she's an Australian singer, for those of you currently scratching your heads…).
The question is, what should we do about this state of affairs? Should we attempt to recapture the escaped convict (if, indeed, that's what it is: we may just be imagining things, and let's face it, it wouldn't be the first time…), or should we just leave it be, and let Gabriella get on with life, the proud owner of a dress made entirely from neckties?
You tell us, readers: is it guilty or innocent of crimes of fashion?
oh. my god, it is SO guilty! Are you kidding? The NECKTIE dress that has been made by every freshman fashion student in existence? It’s the very definition of ANTI-creativity and innovation. And to see it on the red…well, green…carpet makes me very mad.
I actually think it’s kind of cute.
I find myself liking it too, which is strange cause a “necktie” dress seems in theory quite awful.
The only reason to not lock it up would be if she made it herself due to lack of funds (a la Cinderella).
Otherwise, it’s slammer time!
Put out a warrant for its immediate arrest! (And I don’t think it’s an escapee.)
I think let it off with a warning
.
Does anyone remember the tv sitcom “Blossom” in the US in the 1990’s? She had one of these. That means guilty.
Oh my God, Blossom! I loved her – in fact, I wanted to be her. Whoops, maybe I didn’t want to admit that…
I don’t hate it…. I wouldn’t wear it but I don’t hate it.
Well, I would never wear it myself, but I actually think it’s kind of cute on her.
Kill me , but I really like this dress.
Don’t arrest her, pleeeeaseee! ;;)
Don’t shoot me down but…
I like it…
i kinda like it too
Actually, I kind of like it.
I know it’s not the most original of ideas, but she looks happy and proud to show it off so why not? There are plenty worse out there, I’m sure.
I’m used to seeing tie skirts as a DIY project, and for the teen hippies and other creative types who make them, I’m fine with it. But I’m not liking the dress.
Not hating it.
But I’d like it way more if it hadn’t so many different colours.
Chose a couple of colours and stick to them, please..
I totally second Danny! Except the fact that I liked it.
I think she pulls it off queit well, it reninds me of the skirt my sister made out of ties(she was 15 at the time). lol the only reason I know who Gabriella Cilmi is because she was on nevermind the buzzcocks
I cannot even believe this is only on trial!
yeah, i’m pretty sure i wanted to make a skirt like this when i was 16. luckily it never happened.
I actually don’t hate it. Definitely not something I’d wear, but I don’t find it all that offensive.
I like the necktie A-line skirts I’ve seen on craft blogs, but the shape doesn’t lend itself to a dress and the belt just makes it looks all lumpy about the middle.
I actually like it. I’d wear it.
I kind of like it too.
And she is only about 16 or something right?
Maybe it actually is her own teenage diy project?
Sorry everybody, but I looove this dress. Whether it’s the first time it’s come around or not, its adorable.
I like it, and I’ve seen some really really cool DIY stuff done with ties. It’s quite creative. I would have picked different patterns for this dress though….. !
Maybe I have a weird way of thinking but this dress looks for me as a trophy hall or “a trip down the memory lane”.
You know: 1 guy = 1 tie
It looks cute though.
