A letter from the editor…

No harem pants A letter from the editor...

I HAD thought this would go without saying, but apparently not, so just to clarify:

People who post comments here telling me they hope my house gets bombed because I don't like harem pants will be deleted and banned. Yes, "kaylie", that means you.

People who post comments saying I should be "shot in the head" because I like a certain dress, will also be deleted and banned.

In summary: debate/ discussion/disagreement/different opinions = good, as long as you're not aggressive or rude about it. Threats of violence/ hatred/personal attacks and abuse = bad, and will result in the old "delete and ban" rule coming into effect.

So, basically, what I'm saying is, "play nice, people". Absolutely nothing on this site is meant to be taken so seriously you start threatening people with violence or death over it, and if you find yourself getting so upset over the fact that a random stranger on the internet doesn't have the same taste in clothes as you, it's time to take a step back from the keyboard and have a little think about why you're so angry.

Look, here is a cute puppy:

See, you're feeling better already, aren't you?

  1. Awwww goodness! That puppy is soo sweet awww. And harem pants totally suck:D but like if you (not you, Amber, duhh but you whoever:D) want to look like you have a huge droopy ass well, that’s your battle. But good luck not looking utterly ridiculous..

  2. ohh and I wasn’t trying to be offensive or mean, I just think it’s a fact. harem pants = the circus or smth..
ohh and everyone have a lovely weekend! is it too early to say that?:D

  3. Amber, keep up the good work and don’t let people like that put you down. A lot of people like what you do.
May the Force be with you.
(and that puppy is soo sweet)
(and, yes, harem pants are evil)

  4. Some people obviously have some serious mental health issues… And I didn’t mean this as an offensive comment – I meant it as obvious fact. If you react with such horrible violent comments to something as trivial as another person’s taste in clothes, maybe it’s time to seek help.
On a side note, I want a puppy just like that! awwwwww…

  5. Thanks for the comments everyone: these people don’t actually upset me or anything – I figure they must be dealing with some pretty serious issues of their own if they genuinely can’t deal with the idea that not everyone shares their tatse in clothes. I just think sometimes I need to post a little reminder of what’s acceptable and what isn’t here: I know the regular readers don’t need to be told this, but as the site grows and new people start reading, they can sometimes take it all too seriously and think it’s OK to get offensive (not just to me, but to other commenters, or by leaving really vile comments about the celebrities/models etc in the pictures).
Obviously The Fashion Police is meant to be lighthearted and most of the posts are tounge-in-cheek – I mean, yeah, I don’t think harem pants look good, but I don’t ACTUALLY care if other people like them or wear them, because we all have our opinions and taste, and I don’t think there’s really a “right” or “wrong” opinion about personal taste. While I’m all for debate and discussion, though, and I’m happy for people to disagree with anything I say here, I like to try and keep the mood light, and what I really DON’T want is for this to become a place where people are attacked for their opions: I think if that kind of behaviour goes unchecked it can totally ruin a site, and like I’ve said before, they’re just clothes, they’re not worth getting upset over :)
I kind of wish I hadn’t posted the picture of the puppy, now though: it’s making me really, really want one!

  6. Some people are SOOOOO sad!! Why would anyone want to threaten such nonsense over a fashion atricle?! There are some very starnge people around (I think I work with some of them… YIKES! :-S)…
The puppy is cute, but could you make it a kitten next time pls? :D … FANX

  7. I think it is hilarious the way that some people use the internet as a shield to hide behind. “I hope someone bombs your house because you like something different than my personal tastes?” Wow..I highly doubt that would be said to your face.
By the way – puppies make EVERYTHING better. Next time, could you make it a Labrador? Pretty please?

  8. Amber
I absolutely LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE what you do. I stumble on this site not to long ago and its kept me in stitches daily. Keep it up!!

  9. I love this site, it gives me a giggle when I am feeling down. I cannot believe that people would leave the sort of offensive comments you have referred to. There is enough real ugliness in the world, why add to it?

  10. Hey, a girl at university walked into class last week, wearing green camouflage harem pants and a purple vest with lots of bling (and I mean tons of it). I passed her a note from across the lecture theatre which read, “I would puke on your outfit, but looks like someone already did!” Harem pants are an unjustifiable fashion crime; she looked upset after reading it, wonder why?

  11. Netizens are clearly becoming victims of the horrid economy which is in turn causing them to turn on the people the run our beloved blogs and forums. That sort of behavior ranks right up there with flip flops and leg warmers and shants, it’s just an enormous NO. I personally love the FP and Amber’s posts tend to make my day

  12. ahaha, that puppy is adorable.
and personally, I think harem pants can be acceptable, but only when…
    a) they have extremely skinny legs.
    b) the crotch does NOT, I repeat, NOT drop below the knees.
    c) you wear it with something very structured. :)

  13. I find your site and the way you write your posts incredibly amusing.
I can’t believe people would take it so seriously!
And I want to steal that puppy…

  14. It’s a sad world when people start taking clothes so seriously and life so frivoulously.
If someone feels so strongly about a dropped crotch to actually threaten another with death or physical violence for merely disagreeing with them, then they need help beyond their wardrobe.
I *love* this blog and have been reading it for years. I have never once tuned in without getting a laugh from it, and frequently catch my husband peering over my shoulder and having a giggle too.
In fact, if we’re in the street and he sees my eyes suddenly avert to foot level, he’ll ask, “Shoe porn?”, and if he sees someone wearing harem pants he’ll give me a covert nudge/smirk.
So, not only does Fashion Police give me a good laugh on a regular basis, you have made my guy understand fashion and my obsession with shoes.
Chief of Fashion Police, I salute you and everything you stand for :)

  15. oh… poor people, they don’t understand what it’s like to be part of The Fashion Police Sorority!
Go Amber! and my best wishes for you on all of your new projects.

  16. I’m so sorry about the hate-monger trolls. Early on in my blog I opted for comments moderation because I thought something similar could happen (and wouldn’t you know it, right after that it did!) with the comments posted.
You have to wonder about people who get *that* worked up over something posted on a blog, no matter what it might be … what’s even scarier is the fact that these same people are out there, walking around. Gah!

  17. Kiesha – I don’t think that makes it OK for people to want to kill me just because I don’t like them, though, which is what this post was about.
Everyone else – thanks so much for the comments! As I said, I know our regular readers don’t need to be told these things, but there are some seriously scary people out there!

  18. Just checked outside, and despite no clouds, no full moon either…
btw, can we have a hyrax photo next, e.g. this one?
