The 80s are making a fashion comeback: run!

80s-fashion

Brace yourselves, folks: the 80s are making a comeback. Yes, again.

Seriously, it's like Groundhog Day, isn't it? Every single year now, fashion designers seem to decide to revive the 80s, and to be brutally honest, the 80s were bad enough the first time round, why would we want to relive them over and over again, through acid-wash jeans and neon stilettos? Why?! Why can't fashion designers decide to revive a different fashion era for a change? (Fashion Police suggestion: the 40s.)

Such is to be our fate, though, and this summer it would appear that the 80s revival is worse than ever, with acid wash being touted as the only denim to be seen in, and Topshop even going so far as to start selling Kylie and Jason t-shirts. What's next, we ask: scrunchies and shell suits?

So, what do you think? Clearly the fashion world isn't about to give up on the 80s without a damn good fight, but will you be fighting back, or are you ready to just give in and accept acid wash and neon into your life?

  • God. No. I hated acid wash denim in the 80s I’m not about to start wearing it now!

I actually like the t-shirt:D But acid wash? that’s something that should just go away, permanently!

    Yeah… no acid wash please.

That ‘outfit’ on the left sure is fugly! I kinda like the t-shirt, though. I was born in the early ’90, so acid hasn’t yet hurt my eye-balls. I do expect that to happen if this stupid trend goes on.

  • It’s always the ugly trends of the 80′s they revive. Why not the pork-pie hats a ‘la Duckie Dale? I dunno. Acid Wash isn’t the problem, it’s that it’s always worn with cheap or cheap looking tops and shoes. It’s only a fabric pattern, after all. But those crazy skirts from the 80′s…just stay away!

  • I was at the mall yesterday and everywhere I looked, everywhere, was NEON! GAK! And the giant floppy shirts, sigh. I was at the perfect age in the 80′s to want desperately to be in style and very quickly ran the opposite direction and deliberately wore the opposite because I couldn’t take it anymore..

I’ll take the neon [wait ... let me look in my closet ... I think I still have some left from the 80's], but the acid wash has to go.

My rule: If you remember these styles from the first time around then wearing them again is a no no.
If you weren’t born yet, well I guess you can wear it, but really you should be learning from the mistakes of previous generations.

  • When I saw the skinny jean making its appearance last year, I knew we were in for trouble; it was a sure sign that the fashion of the 80′s would live again. But my, they are back with a vengeance, aren’t they!

acid wash was horrible the first time round. A lot of the 80′s revival stuff as been quite creative, this is just lazy – those acid wash horrors have probably been sitting in a warehouse for years.

    but acid wash?
    scrunchies?
    spandex?
    mesh t shirts?
    I’m only 16 and i know
we should just let those trends die!
(and im totally agreeing whole heartedly with the 40′s.
Dita Von Teese has it right)

My mum was a bit of a fashionista in the 80′s and loves this, but i honestly hate this
try taking like Hotpants and Pencil Skirts and updating them as much as you can

  • the eighties were amazing! except for plastic jewellery and neon/slogan tshirts..everything else..acidwash,leather,big hair..its all so lovely

  • Sorry, but I actually really like this style! Maybe that’s because I wasn’t around to see the 80′s.

  • What people don’t seem to realize is that when a style repeats itself it will generally come back more moderized for today’s world.AND most of us arent taking the whole 80′s theme in full force; it’s more like modern hair and makeup and a few choice pieces.

  • I’ve had it up to here with 80s fashion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG!
I HATE neon, acid wash, and the style all together! I’m still caught up in the fishnet tights, converse, and loose shirts.
I happen to like my style, and I’m not changing it for this!
