Today’s Dress of the Day was nominated by Raechel. It’s £59 and is available from ASOS.com.
Raechel says: “I saw this lovely little dress on ASOS, and think it’s gorgeous! It can be dressed up or down, and has a really great 70′s laid back feel to it, with a lovely unusual shade of green!”
She's generally the Girls Aloud member who gets least attention from the media, but actually, we think redhead Nicola Roberts was the best dressed of the lot at last night's Brit Awards in London.
Here she is on the red carpet with bandmates (from left) Nadine Coyle, Kimberly Walsh, Sarah Harding and Cheryl Cole. We love Cheryl's mini dress too, but hats off to Nicola, who also earns Fashion Police points for refusing to succumb to the lure of the fake tan that's had her fellow Girls Aloud in its grips for quite some time now. Bravo!
You already know what we're going to say here, but we're just going to go ahead and say it anyway:
WHY?
And also:
TAN LINES.
The latter point wouldn't be a pron;em for us, of course, because we're always SP'd up in the sun, but even without the tan lines, we suspect those black, um, belly straps, would help create the illusion of a wrinkly stomach. And who wants a wrinky-looking stomach on the beach, we ask you?
If you think all of this is mere speculation, however, and that this would look just perfect on, it's £24.99 and you can buy it at River Island.
My, but the recession is really hitting the fashion industry hard, isn't it? Now we're even reduced to carrying around our worldly goods in an old boot: whatever next?
Of course, this isn't just any old boot: this is, in fact, a bag - see the way it folds over at the top, fastening with a magnetic clip? Not that anyone will know that it's actually a bag, of course: as far as passers by are concerned, you'll just look like you're walking around clutching a boot. Oh, the trials of the misunderstood fashionista!
This is £165 from Azumi & David, but once again, The Fashion Police have come to the rescue with some DIY guidelines that will allow you to replicate this style with items you already have in your wardrobe. Here they are:
The Harem Hall of Shame (a special section of the Fashion Police jail where harem pants are isolated for their own protection. And also because we don't want them teaming up with the peep toe boots that are also incarcerated there) is starting to look a little crowded again, so we figured it was time to parade our latest batch of prisoners before you.
Leading the parade this month are these saggy beige pants from La Redoute (who have embraced the current drop-crotch "craze" with enthusiasm), which look to us like the kind of clothing you'd only wear if you were so old you were unable to wear "normal" clothes – or, indeed, to notice that your crotch was now hovering somewhere in the vicinity of your knees.
We had assumed that the recent rash of shoes with hearts on them was something to do with Valentine's Day – a passing fancy, if you will – but Valentine's has been and gone and the heart-shaped shoes are still around, so we're starting to see a trend developing here. Are hearts the new bows? We're not quite sure: and we don't really know how we feel about them if they are, to be honest.
Take these heart shaped wedges by Marc Jacobs, for instance. At first glance, and even although they're actually nothing like them, we were uncomfortably reminded of these:
These, of course, aren't by Marc Jacobs (they're from here, if you're interested): they are, in fact, "sexy" shoes (if you're a regular here, you'll already know how we feel about things that are typically described as "sexy"), but we've had them under observation for a couple of weeks now, and they're the first thing that springs to mind whenever the words "hearts" and "wedges" are mentioned in the same sentence.
Which brings us back to Marc Jacobs. Now, clearly his shoes are a whole world away from the shoes pictured above, and actually, the more we look at them, the more we think we like them. The heart isn't too in your face, the uppers look good quality, and the nude leather is one of our current favourite things. We could be swayed by them, in other words.
What do you think, though? Have they won your heart? If so, they're £377 and you'll find them at NET-A-PORTER .
We’ve had loads of nominations for Dress of the Day recently, so we’re continuing to work our way through them. Today’s dress was nominated by Rhonda: it’s by M Missoni, and is $695 at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Rhonda says: “I like the flirty swing in the skirt and the earthy (but not dark) tones of the fabric. It has plenty of coverage for the office and would look great with some high leather boots and a short corduroy jacket on a walk in the park, yet the strappy sandals and bare shoulders could take it to the club. You know, if going to clubs is your thing. It’s not mine. But I’d wear it anyway. Even if I wouldn’t spend $695 on a dress.”
