We're not sure whether Penelope Cruz was hoping to catch a husband at this year's event, because she was certainly dressed for a shotgun wedding, but with that said the white dress has become something of a red carpet staple, and there's no denying that Penelope looks gorgeous in this one, which is vintage Balmain.
We’re kicking off our coverage of the 2009 Oscars with the woman of the evening: Best Actress Kate Winslet, who rounded off an impeccably dressed awards season in a blue, one-shouldered Yves Saint Laurent gown with floral embroidery on one side. While at first glance the colour looked a bit drab, we still think she looks wonderful and classy here: cast your vote under the poll, though, to tell us what you thought (or drop us a comment!)
Today’s Dress of the Day is by Preen Line, and was nominated by Louise.
Louise says: “It’s very similar to the main line version that Gwyneth Paltrow wore earlier in the year in black and Amy Winehouse in a bright yellow, but a fraction of price. I love the shape, the on-trend exposed zip and the fact that it’s sexy without looking cheap.”
If you like it too, it’s £255 from NET-A-PORTER , and although it’s currently out of stock, there’ll be more in soon!
Do you want to look like a huge splat of ink just got dropped on your head, cartoon-style? Of course you do! Do you want to pay £57 for that look? Er, possibly not so much, which is just as well really, because the Splat Hat is currently out of stock at Tatty Devine.
P.S. – the elastic goes under your hair, not under your chin!
Hot on the heels of the clutch-bag-boots, news has reached The Fashion Police of a new innovation from Azumi & David – sunglasses tape!
The brand has already been selling stick-on ties, watches and bracelets, but these stick-on sunglasses will be releases in time for summer. Will you want to wear them, though? Well, they’re not available to buy yet, so we don’t know what kind of actual protection they’ll offer from the sun, but we’re going to go out on a limb and say that, no, we can’t really see “sunglass tape” in our future. But what about you? Is the future looking bright? Is it looking like a roll of sticky tape with glasses printed on it? Tell us!
The Fashion Police love Gwen Stefani. Love her. So when our officers spotted her wearing the current Public Enemy #1:Drop Crotch Pants, we were inclined to turn a blind eye. After all, it’s only a very slightly dropped crotch, and hey, if anyone can get away with it, Gwen probably can. And actually, she looks as good as ever, doesn’t she?
Tell you what, Gwen, you hand over those shoes, as a bribe good behaviour bond and we’ll pretend we never saw you: deal?
Even The Fashion Police were fooled this week when we spotted Victoria Beckham out and about in a selection of what looked like real fur coats. Apparently, though, Posh is firmly anti-fur, and these are all fakes, albeit super-expensive ones by the likes of Stella McCartney, which is presumably how Victoria managed to get through New York Fashion Week without being mobbed by PeTA. What do you think of her fakes, though? Does the fact that they look relatively real bother you, or is she making a style statement and nothing more?
Let’s just pretend this Christian Louboutin clutch bag doesn’t cost £555. Let’s just block it out of our minds. Repress it. And let’s think instead about the gorgeous, pale pink satin (also available in a much brighter pink, should you prefer), the classic, vintage style shape, and, of course, the trademark shoe clasps, which are enough to set Fashion Police hearts a-fluttering. Lovely.
When you’re ready to start thinking about the price, head over to Browns , where you can pick one up.
