OK, so we don’t like “psychedelic print”. On anything. So maybe that makes us just a tad biased with this one, but add the £895 price tag to the “so loud it makes us reach for our sunglasses” print, divide by the fact that we just can’t imagine a scenario in which we think, “God, I wish I had my psychedelic print jump suit with me right now!” (No, Net-a-Porter, your suggestion of “cocktails by the pool” doesn’t quite cut it, unfortunately) and we’re forced to conclude that we have no idea why this exists. Although, granted, if you were lost at sea, it’d certainly help the search and rescue teams find you faster. Ah! For every problem, a solution! Just not one we’d be willing to spend £895 on…

If you would,  however, you can get it at NET-A-PORTER From the Why Does It Exist? files: Matthew Williamson Bright Escape print jumpsuit

Sarah Jessica Parker wears Martin Margiela’s split-toe boots: case closed!

Spl78886 004[1] Sarah Jessica Parker wears Martin Margielas split toe boots: case closed!

Today, readers, The Fashion Police are pleased to announce that we’ve finally been able to close the file on a case which has puzzled us for months: namely, the question of who on earth would wear Martin Margiela’s split toe boots? (Or, indeed, any split toe boots, because we don’t care what you say, that still doesn’t look comfortable to us…)

After a delicate – and sometimes dangerous – operation, however, we can now reveal that the person who would wear the boots is none other than… Sarah Jessica Parker! Yes, we’ve had SJP under surveillance for a while now, and at last our suspicions have been confirmed. You can see one of our detectives on her trail above, moments before the boots were taken into custody.

Ah, another case closed!

Keira Knightley dresses down for the ‘Cheri’ premiere in Berlin

Spl79276 003[1] Keira Knightley dresses down for the Cheri premiere in Berlin

Ah, isn’t that sweet – Keira Knightley off to her first day of work as a bank clerk in the 1980s!

Nah, we’re just kidding, she’s on the red carpet again, at the premiere of “Cheri”, and she’s working that Angelina-Jolie-esque, “Look, I’m so beautiful I can literally wear anything and you’ll still love me!” attitude.

Not to Keira: no, we really won’t. And we don’t care if it’s Chloe, and you were trying not to steal the limelight from your boyfriend – The Fashion Police see all!

P.S. We like your shoes, though.

Save or Splurge: Denim jackets

Denim jackets save or splur Save or Splurge: Denim jackets

The Fashion Police have long been of the opinion that a good pair of jeans are worth spending money on. We’re not saying you should remortgage your house for them, or anything, and we’re also not saying the best jeans are always the expensive ones (we like River Island’s efforts, personally), but given how much we tend to wear them, they do tend to be one of those items we’d be spending a bit more on, because once we find that elusive perfect fit, we’re not going to want to walk away from it.

Is the same true of denim jackets, though, we wonder?

We’ve spoken before of the return of the denim jacket to Fashion Land, and there’s no doubt that there’s even more of them around at the moment than before – particularly the mid-wash variety, as shown above. We’ve also admitted to quite liking these, especially during the summer months, when they can look good thrown on over a cotton dress. Sure, it’s all a bit 90s, but it’s a 90s look we don’t have much objection to, and it’s still better than all of the acid-wash 80s horrors that are floating around at the moment, so we can live with it.

Would we be willing to pay a lot of money for it, though? Well, probably not. We don’t think the “perfect fit” argument applies here in quite the same way it does for jeans, so while we like the look of the Current/Elliot denim jacket on the right of the picture above (£200 at NET-A-PORTER Save or Splurge: Denim jackets) better than the £45 Miss Selfridge version on the left, we’d probably buy the Miss Selfridge version – assuming we were going to buy one at all.

What about you? Would you Save or Splurge?

Rock steady dress Reader Nominated Dress of the Day: Teal Sparrow Dress by Rock SteadyThis week we've been taking your nominations for our Dress of the Day slot, and here's one of them. This teal sparrow dress is by Rock Steady, and was nominated by Anna.

Anna writes: "I really, really want to nominate this dress because it's really cool and awesome and I like the color, the V neck, the ruffles on the sleeves, and the sparrows. I don't know why, but I just have this thing about sparrows. Isn't it soooo cuuuuuuuute?"

If you think the answer to that last question is "yes", the dress is currently out of stock, but due to be re-stocked soon, so keep an eye on the website here for more information.

Daylight Robbery: Lanvin technic crepe loose trousers

Lanvin trousers Daylight Robbery: Lanvin technic crepe loose trousers

When even the model looks a little bit on the “hippy” side, you know you’ve got a problem with the trousers, don’t you?

Tell us, then, readers: how much would you pay for a pair of pants like these? We think even £10 would be too much, and yet Lanvin, in their infinite wisdom, have decided they’re worth an amazing £1000/$1450. Yes, folks, £1000 to look like you just got home from work, pulled on your oldest and least flattering pair of pants, and then flopped down on the sofa to pig out in front of the TV. In the early 90s.

Perhaps a better question in this case, then, would be: how much would someone have to pay you to wear them?

(p.s. Roisin Murphy? You don’t have to answer that one, honey…)

Wear or Die: Yellow and green should never be seen

Wear or die yellow green Wear or Die: Yellow and green should never be seen

It's been becoming increasingly clear in recent months that we're currently living through an Era of Awful Trousers. Dropped crotches, supper-baggy legs (often with elasticated ankles), hideous patterns – you name it, we've seen it.

There's only one thing more amusing than Awful Trousers, though, and that's forcing you, our readers, to wear a pair of them. Today, we give you the choice of not one, but two pairs: it's up to you which pair you decide to go for, but remember – we're playing Wear or Die here, and the rules of the game state that if you don't choose one, you must die!

(The rules also state that you're not allowed to cover your chosen outfit up with a coat or similar, so no cheating! You must wear the outfits as they're shown.)

So, which one will you choose?
