Fashion Police at the 2009 Oscars: Heidi Klum & Seal

OK: it's Heidi Klum at the Oscars, it's RM by Roland Mouret, it's a striking, asymmetric shape, and it's an fabulous, dramatic red. So why isn't this quite working for us? Is it just that the Oscars isn't really a "flash yer thighs" kinda ceremony, and Heidi's getting her legs out a little more than is perhaps necessary? No, we don't think so, but while we don't hate this look, we still can't quite put our fingers on why we don't love it, either. Your suggestions welcome.

On another note: don't you always feel sorry for men at awards ceremony? Seal, for instance, looks as handsome as ever here, but he looks just like Seal at any other awards ceremony. It must suck to have to always go for a suit and miss out on all of the fabulous choices we women get…

  1. I hate Heidi’s hairstyle.
The dress is not ugly but unflattering and makes her look like a big red tube with no waist or hips. It also looks horribly uncomfortable.
And yes, poor men in general. They miss out on all the fun, but on the other hand it’s very cheap as you only have to buy a black suit once and are done for years.

  2. Gotta say I don’t care for this at all. It looks all lumpy and uneven, especially in the chest area. If this had come down the runway on her Project Runway show, I can’t imagine it would be called anything other than a tailoring disaster.

  3. I think the fabric is all wrong, it sort of hangs like saranwrap in some places and burlap in others (for an unfortunate one lumpy boob effect).

  4. Here we can’t see them in detail but I loved Heidi’s bracelets. The dress is too flashy, yes, but I think she always looks wonderful. Just not her best choice.
