Anna Friel and Alice Dellal choose see-through dresses for the Elle Style Awards

Spl79205_003[1]

Every time The Fashion Police write about the fashion mystery that is the sheer dress (or "shress",if you prefer), we get comments from people saying something along the lines of "Yeah, haha, but no one would actually wear them. Would they?"

And the answer to that is that yes, they would. Sure, the "shresses" worn by Anna Friel and Alice Dellal to last night's Elle Style Awards are nowhere near as "see through" as some of the atrocities we've had to throw into the Fashion Police jail, but there's some definite nipple-action going on with Anna's top ("NO!" screams the dress, as if it knows it's about to get her arrested), while Alice's is a little too close to the crotch for comfort. There are close-ups of the offending areas under the jump, if you don't believe us.

Anna was presenting Viktor and Rolf with the award for H&M Style Visionary, which explains why she's wearing one of their dresses. We have no idea what Alice's excuse is.

What do you think of these looks, folks? Edgy or just plain uncomfortable in an "oh my God, I wish I wasn't flashing my nipples/groin" kinda way?

Ok, yeah, they wore their “shresses”, but I’m pretty sure none of them got the STYLE Award.. Or at least I hope so!

  2. Moni says:

Although Anna should definitely have worn a bra underneath that dress, she still wears it with style and dignity.
I don’t know who Alice is supposed to be, but from the looks of her she seems to work as a street prostitute – at least right before she came to the awards. From the hair to the accessories to the stockings this look is a perfect illustration for the term “slutty”.

  3. gokarm says:

I honestly don’t mind provocative, “questionable” attire when it’s done in a creative way. I tend to think people are WAY too uptight about their bodies and hiding them. That said, I kind of like the NO dress, and I HAAAATE the $5 hooker dress. The NO is whimsical and it’s an interesting color…it’s no masterpiece but it doesn’t make me mad. Alice’s outfit has NO imagination, no dignity, and no edge. It’s just cheap, like a costume you’d find in the local porn shop, or worse, in your average american halloween shop. Britney Spears shows more style sense than that.

  4. Theresa says:

I’m not nearly as concerned with the $5 dollar hooker dress as I am with the fact that her gloves appear to be clawed.

  5. Celeste says:

I agree with gokarm, while the ‘No’ dress needs a bra, and is kind of odd, it’s not bad, and might even have potential to look better. The photo angle, and wide angle lens is helping Anna to look distorted.
Alice looks like a hooker. Or some kid who thinks that spikes+slutty clothes=punk. And the way that is pulls across her stomach is really unattractive.

  6. chocoholic says:

Both like horrible, but the one on the right is pure trash.

  7. Diana says:

Both are HORRID… what I canĀ“t stand are those weird gloves.. haha they are just fugly.. and what do you say about the spike COLLAR?
