Celebrity Style on Trial: Meryl Streep gets patriotic at the ‘Doubt’ photocall in Paris

Spl74295 015[1] Celebrity Style on Trial: Meryl Streep gets patriotic at the Doubt photocall in Paris

It’s been a big week for America, there’s no “doubt” about it (do you see what we did there?) and there’s a lot to be excited about – not least the fact that we now know it’s possible to buy hats with giant bows on the front of them: thank you, Aretha Franklin!

Has Meryl Streep taken pride in her country a little too far, though, by wearing Catherine Malandrino’s Flag Dress to the Paris photo-call of her movie, Doubt? We’re going to leave it up to you to decide…

Forget strappy sandals, now Sigerson Morrison are making strappy boots

“These sexy, strappy boots speak volumes about your adventurous sense of style,” says Zappos. Well, that’s certainly one point of view, isn’t it?

As for us, we just wish this current fixation on boots with open toes and lots and lots of straps would just DIE already. Knowing our luck, these would leave our pasty white legs covered in the impressions of all those straps, although, given that these are amongst the very last things we’d choose to spend $1694 on, that’s not a problem we’re likely to have to face anytime soon.

What about you, though? Are you starting to come round to the idea of boots that are of no use whatsoever when it comes to keeping your feet and legs warm and dry, but which will help with that “adventurous sense of style” Zappos mention? Do tell.

Fashion Police Gold Star for… Marisa Tomei at The Creative Coalition’s 2009 Inaugural Ball

MArisa Fashion Police Gold Star for... Marisa Tomei at The Creative Coalitions 2009 Inaugural Ball

This dress is super-simple - probably too much so for some tastes – but it’s so beautifully cut, and the material looks so luxurious when viewed in close-up, that we thought Marisa Tomei, who wore it to The Creative Coalition’s 2009 Inaugural Ball, deserved a gold star for it anyway.
We’re pretty sure this is the same dress Diane Kruger wore in white last year, and when we showed you the pictures, a lot of you said you’d prefer it in some other colour. Well, here it is in black: what do you think of it now?
One more picture under the jump, showing the V neckline at the back of the dress.

This dress is also available in black, but we think the red brings out the full, retro-loveliness of it. For some reason we’re picturing it worn with cat’s eye glasses and lots of black, flicked eyeliner for a full-on 60s housewife kind of vibe, but of course you’ll be able to make it work as part of a more modern look too without much trouble!

It’s £140 from Karen Millen.

Well, it looks like The Fashion Police chose the wrong year to quit buying dresses they'll never wear, because if these pictures are anything to go by, we're probably going to have to start camping out at Dorothy Perkins soon to make sure we're in with a chance of buying some of these beauties.

These are all part of the S/S 09 collection, and will be in-store soon. There are some more images under the jump, just to whet your appetite.

Style on Trial: Tassel top from River Island

Tassel top Style on Trial: Tassel top from River Island

Ah, tassels, our old nemesis! It’s no secret around Fashion Police HQ that if an item can be described as “tasseled”, we’re probably not going to love it – or even like it – and that has definitely proven to be the case with this top from River Island, which looks to us like it has someone’s hair stuck to it. A bit like the sartorial equivalent of Samara from The Ring, come to think of it, and now that we have thought of it, we just can’t get the image out of our mind. That top is coming to get us for sure, and we’re thinking the safest place for it would be The Fashion Police jail.

But of course, that’s just us. Your intervention here could save this item from prosecution, so tell us: is it really a crime of fashion, or do you find it innocent of the charges against it?

Wear or Die: Footwear Edition

Wear or die boots Wear or Die: Footwear Edition

It's been a while since we had a footwear edition of Wear or Die, so of course we had to rectify that, didn't we?

Up above, you see two shoes. Both are black, both are ankle height and, in our opinions at least, both have taken a bit of a beating from the ugly stick. But just say you HAD to wear one of them. Or die. That's the choice before you today, folks, but will you choose Option A, which is Ann Demeulemeester's lace-up flat boots, or will you go for Option B, which is "Twister" by Irregular Choice?

It's a hard choice, but someone has to make it, and today that someone is you. Yes, you. Make your choice in the comments box below!

Michelle Obama wears Jason Wu gown for inauguration balls

Obama inaguration Michelle Obama wears Jason Wu gown for inauguration balls

Jason Wu must be one happy man this morning. After weeks of speculation as to which designer Michelle Obama would choose to wear on the evening of husband Barack's inauguration, Wu's design was the one she went for. We love the one-shouldered design and we think Michelle has the ability to look good in more or less everything she wears, but what did you think of her choice?
