Michelle Obama wears Jason Wu gown for inauguration balls

Obama_inaguration

Jason Wu must be one happy man this morning. After weeks of speculation as to which designer Michelle Obama would choose to wear on the evening of husband Barack's inauguration, Wu's design was the one she went for. We love the one-shouldered design and we think Michelle has the ability to look good in more or less everything she wears, but what did you think of her choice?

  1. am says:

    Wow! She looks amazing!

  2. Evelyn says:

Just gorgeous. And it looks comfortable too!

  3. Carol says:

Meh. I don’t care for it, but it wasn’t my choice to make. Thought it was too “girly” for such a strong woman.

  4. gokarm says:

She looks like a feminine, beautiful queen. The pride in her eyes is the perfect accessory. What a man she’s got!

  5. SJ says:

She looks gorgeous in this dress, but I don’t think it works well for the type of movement she was doing, it looked like she was having a little trouble with the train.

  6. peachfish says:

It seemed like the train made it really hard to dance. Overall, I felt like it looked nice, but didn’t really flatter her figure much – I think it made her look a lot more flat-chested than she really is. It all would have come together better if she had used a little more color in her make-up as well; the combination of the white dress and really understated make-up made her look kind of washed out.

  7. Arielle says:

Not really liking it. I think the design would have looked better with a sleeker material. And I agree with Peachfish, the color is making her look washed out.

  8. D Taylor says:

This whole thing is a waste of my money! During WWI, all the festivities were called
off due to financial concerns…are we not in the same boat today or even worse? Let’s start using some
    COMMON SENSE….

  9. Emma says:

Dear D Taylor, isn’t it nice to know you’re not paying for it? The balls were all paid by donations and Michelle bought her own clothes.

  10. Kam says:

Emma: Michelle may have bought her own clothes but we are all paying for it one way or another. This president is supposed to be concerned with helping the country right now! Does it look like he’s concerned? Nope, looks like he’s the cat that swallowed the canary!
If this was the Bush’s ball we would all only be hearing about how expensive it all is!
Love how the media swings one way!
Maybe Michelle should sell the dress afterwards to help the hungry!!!! HMMMMMMM

  11. Tiffany says:

Kam: For such a historic event i think that it was only proper that it was celebrated in such a manner. As I recall we only had nice things to say about the 300,000 gown that Mrs. Bush wore to W’s inaugural ball. Please stop trying to play the race card backwards, because that seems exactly like what you are doing! And by the way great post Fashion Police! YES WE DID!!!!!! PRESIDENT OBAMA!!!

  12. bobbi says:

    Dear Emma~
First off if she brought it we are not paying for it! and second off I’m sure the dress laura bush had on was more and third off! give the man a break he just got sworn in yesterday and remember he has alot of crap to sort through left over from the old administation! and the price of one dress is not going to make a difference with the way things are already messed up thanks to Bush!!!!

  13. bobbi says:

Sorry Emma, that post I just posted was to Kam!

  14. Sheila says:

I’m not too thrilled about the fabric of this dress (looks like odd puffballs) and the white does wash her out. She could’ve compensated with better makeup. If the train was shorter, the dress would’ve been better for her overall. And that one-shouldered…thing…is irking me for some reason. Seems haphazardly attached rather than flowing with the rest of the dress. Loved the earrings though!

  15. bobbi says:

Kam: First off I don’t think the price of one dress is going to make a difference with the way things are now thanks to the old administration! and lets give the president a break! he just took the oath yesterday! and has a lot of crap to sort through left over from Bush’s mess!!!!!!

  16. Randi says:

I believe the precedent is to donate the dress to the Smithsonian. Anyways, I thought that while maybe the dress wasn’t as flattering as it could have been. she still looked beautiful and youthful.

  17. Kam says:

Tiffany, You are the one that said something about RACE, I am not so please lets be adult about this! As I recall most of the people only had bad things to say about Laura Bush because none of them can think on their own and have to listen to the media to get their opinions!
Bobbi, I am sorry if you are having a hard time getting a concept of what I am saying but what I meant by we will be paying for it one way or another is that by all of the taxes that Obama has already stated that he will be raising, that I will be “paying for it”!!!
Please lets be kind here and not speak so bad of George Bush because just as you said Obama was just sworn in yesterday and there is plenty of time for this president to make a mess! I do hope that does not happen!! Let’s get back onto the subject though, umm yeah nice dress!

  18. OK, folks: you’re welcome to exchange your views here (I’d prefer they remained on-topic, as this isn’t a political website, but I won’t insist on it as long as people remain courteous), but if you’re not able to do it without resorting to name-calling and personal attacks, the comments will be closed on this post and the people posting abuse will be banned.
I’ve already had to remove several comments from people who were more interested in attacking each other than engaging in debate, and if I have to remove any more, the comments close.
In short, opinions and debate = good, name calling and personal attacks = bad. I hope this is clear enough.

  19. French Girl says:

I really like the dress ,even if it lookks like a wedding dress to me. What I appreciate is the discret and classy dress. No show off or bling bling!

  20. Celeste says:

Looking at the dress in this photo, it looks like a puff-ball covered bad prom dress.
My opinion changed though when I saw some of the CNN photos. It’s practically regal, and looks great on her.
Oh and the earrings are great too.

  21. Zoe says:

I think overall it is very lovely and regal, just perfect for Michelle!

  22. anna says:

gorgeous dress, but I feel like it makes her look frumpy. Probably could have chosen something more figure-flattering.

  23. ila, Bangalore says:

    soooooper choice…

  24. kevie says:

Hard for Michelle to look anything but beautiful. Still, her ’swearing-in’ suit was much more interesting. I like a little color, ’specially yellow.

  25. Lioness says:

    Dear Fashion Police:
No, I do not think that Michele has the ability to look good in more or less everything she wears. I have yet to see her in anything flattering. Her choice for the evening: An abominable atrocity!
