Michelle Obama wears Isabel Toledo dress and coat for inauguration

On this historic day, we weren’t sure whether we should even bother fighting crimes of fashion, to be honest, because let’s face it, today there’s really only one thing worth talking about: we refer, of course, to First Lady Michelle Obama’s choice of outfit for her husband’s inauguration, and, later, for the celebrations that will follow it.
Well, here’s Michelle’s first outfit: a yellow/gold dress and coat by Isabel Toledo, worn with green gloves and shoes. The Fashion Police approve.
It was a great looking outfit.
But where’s the mention of Aretha Franklin’s fantastic hat?!
I agree with Kelly she looks great and its an interesting and flattering colour but.. my real question is where can I get Aretha’s hat – please please please please tell me fashion police!
Oh God, that hat! Wasn’t it the most fantastic thing!
I didn’t mention it because I tend to get flamed every time I feature something with bows on it these days, but don’t worry, I’m on it!
Michelle really can do no wrong, can she? That yellow color is just perfect for her skin tone and the cut is so elegant and regal.
Who are her shoes by, do you know?
I love this woman, if only for her intuitive grace and sense of personal style, which make her such a knock-out. Finally, a true contender to follow Jackie O!
Agreed on the dress/coat combination. I’m just a bit confused on what’s between the dress and the coat. Is it a cardigan or part of the dress?
She looks magnificent, and I love the way the dresscoat moves around her. Very regal.
I’m sorry everyone but the Isabel Toledo dress and coat was a DISASTER. All those sparkles at 10:00 in the morning? Where are my dark glasses? Was the coat lining really WHITE? Was the tie that kept the coat closed really chiffon? And the necklace looked like fake diamonds….diamonds in the morning? Only if you’re having breakfast at Tiffeny’s. It might have worked well for a cocktail party but looked distinctly tacky holding the Lincoln Bible.

So, Diana…the dress may be appropriate if one were having breakfast at Tiffany’s…but it was too much for one’s husband’s presidential inauguration? Hm.
(Wow, just realized there’s another Zoe here)
Beautiful dress, elegant and regal, Michelle looked great. I’m not crazy about the color, but she pulls it off very nicely.
The green gloves looked weird tho. Same for the color of the shoes. I wish the gloves and shoes were different.
10AM bling for prez inauguration was appropriate me thinks.
Isabel Toledo is an amazing designer and for having seen and tried on some of her creations, the thing must have been beautiful from close and felt amazing… now the color and the fabric work for me, but I think the whole thing wasn’t fitted and tailored enough (this woman has an amazing body!!), and the tights look awful in this picture, way too shiny and light in my opinion… anyway she might have changed them because they weren’t looking half as bad on tv.
I thought that the dress Michalle Obama wore was not appropriate for this event. I felt like wool or something similar would have been a much better choice. Something like she wore should have been saved for after 5. The color was all wrong as were the shoes, bag, and jewelery. Jacqueline Kennedy has nothing to worry about here!
The whole outfit was fabulous and she looked amazing. Surely the fact that it’s your husband’s inauguration as President of the United States justifies a little bling in the morning! Come on, let’s live a little!!
Somehow this just wasn’t working for me.. the dress could have been more fitted, I don’t really like the lining of the coat and the collar of the dress, the color isn’t really her either.. but teh white gown she wore later, now that’s class.
dissappointed
i hate the fit and the color makes her look like moldy celery lol
Zoe, the shoes are by Jimmy Choo. And the gloves are from J Crew, apparently!
Mrs.Obama’s her day outfit I thought the color choice was great however the it was not fitted well and too much going on w/the jewled neckline and the textured fabric which I loved.
It was frumpy more than anything. The dress makes her look 2 sizes larger than she actually is. The colour was alright for her skin tone but the shiny tights are a no. Overall, meh.
I thought Mrs. Obama looked very beautiful yet sophisticated. The photo displayed wasn’t a good pose. Anyone knows that when you walk your garments tend to shift and especially with can present a disheveled look. The tights look shiny again because of the lighting in the photo. But didn’t appear to look so shiny yesterday while the inauguration was on TV and the internet. Let’s face it there are going to be some haters no matter who you are. Don’t hate appreciate? We all have different taste; and those of you chopping up the woman’s taste in close please believe there are people and probably some your friends talking about how messed you look at times…….chow
Loved the whole outfit. Green gloves a nice touch. First time I have seen a First Lady wear something I would wear (if I could afford designer clothes). And she and I are of a similar size…hmmmmm…
Please do not insult Jacqueline Kennedy by comparing Michele Nobama to her. That lemongrass-yellow ensemble and the green accents were positively hideous!
