Style on Trial: Loopy cardigan by Simone Shailes
Did you ever have a loopy jacket when you were a baby? The Fashion Police did, and we even had loopy hats to match! Clearly we were very fashion-forward babies, and way ahead of our time, for Simone Shailes has designed this version of the loopy jacket, which is sold at Topshop for the “bargain” price of £250. [Edit: now down to £60 in the sale. We wonder why?]
As adults, we think there’s a bit too much bulk there for our current tastes, and so we’re probably going to just try and forget our loopy-cardigan-wearing pasts, but we do find this design interesting and, for reasons we can’t quite explain, want to run our hands all over it.

After getting caught on any hook, handle and doorknob you come across, those loops would be 3 feet long!!!

I imagine it would look good on someone. You know, those annoying girls that look good in ridiculous clothes that you’d look like a moron if you tried to wear.

Evelyn: I would sooo be that person! I get caught on things even without the looped clothing.
I’m always catching the sleeves of my kimono dressing gown on door handles (on more than one occasion I have sent a tray I’ve been carrying flying) – so yes, Evelyn raises a very good point. Those loops are a no-no in terms of practicality!
I saw something about this when it was first on sale – Something about the designer trying to recreate or replace fur, with knittedness. (It might be a word – I use it a lot, anyway!) Not sure I understood it then, even less so now.
But it was from a graduate show. They’re always meant to be different and a bit quirky- surely not things real people would wear though! Why DID Topshop pick it up??
I’ve realised i like it a little bit because it looks like 30s fringing. Except it’s not.

Kelly–did the designer think of eyelash yarn? Heh. Still would be ugly. I now do appreciate the thought now… but as a thought. Or perhaps a bag, with the ruffle trend that could work!

I seem to love everything you guys hate. I have this and adore it. In fact I bought the whole collection. I guess it looks better on.
