Style on Trial: Marc by Marc Jacobs ‘Party Girl’ fringed bag

marc jocobs party girl Style on Trial: Marc by Marc Jacobs Party Girl fringed bagWe think “fun” was probably the word Marc Jacobs had in mind when he created this ‘Party Girl’ fringed shoulder bag. Unfortunately, “made by a child” are the words running through our minds when we look at it, because it’s the kind of thing we’d have brought home from school as a craft project when we were about eight years old.

Who’s right, though? Is Marc Jacobs correct in thinking that this is a fun, colourful handbag, such as a “party girl” might wear, or do you agree with The Fashion Police? This bag is On Trial, readers: will you convict or acquit?

  1. It’s fun only halfway. The shoulder strap and the lock don’t go with the theme, and the s**t brown colour doesn’t make me think of “fun”, either. If it was a different (brighter) colour and a braided strap for example, I’d consider it worth a second look.

  2. Yeah convict it. Actually can you just do a round-up of all “designer” items with the “designer’s” name sprawled all over it? And everything with fringes? Stuff with both? just don’t question the fugliness of it. It just is!

  3. personally, I’d think it’d be more fun sans the fringe. I’m not a fan of fringe to begin with and the color block letters are fun enough.

  4. I don’t know what parties Marc Jacobs has been attending recently but I’m glad I wasnt there!
Nasty in all senses of the word
Also it might just be the fact that I only had one contact in when I first saw this but through my somewhat blurred vision the logo-thing seemed to hold a strange resemblence to the Starbucks one…is that just me?!

  5. Not a big fan of the ‘fun’ fringes. I don’t like any fringes. But I especially don’t like them when they’re ‘fun’.

  6. As I first started to scroll down, I thought, “oh, this isn’t so bad.” But that was only seeing the M and the top flap… beyond that, it’s a bit of a nightmare. Especially the fringe.
Fringe = usually a bad idea.
    Multi-coloured fringe = definitely a bad idea.

  7. I’d say convict it, and stick it in the wing proposed by Am, for objects with the designer’s name (or initials) scrawled all over them in large lettering.
