Dress of the Day: Black ruffle prom dress from New Look

Ruffle_prom_dress On paper – and, indeed, at first glance – this dress probably seems too frou-frou for words.

We reckon that if you keep the accessories nice and simple, though, you’ll be able to pull it off nicely  – and there’s something appealing about the thought of being able to swish around like a princess in that skirt, no?

The combination of ruffles and corsage makes this a super-feminine (too much so for some of you, we’ll bet) dress, but the frills are offset by the plain top, and therefore win Fashion Police approval.

It’s £45 at New Look.

  1. I love the retro feel of this dress, like it should be paired with pearls and a cardigan.

  2. Shannon says:

I love this dress! I would wear it to a masked event

  3. Rock Hyrax says:

I’d want to see what it looks like on. “Ruffle tiered mesh” – sounds dangerously close to ’sheer’ territory…

  4. b. says:

Er, no. Apart from the fact that it screams ‘widow’, it has got an enormous bum without anyone wearing it.

  5. lorrwill says:

    Ya know, FP, I agree.
I immediately saw it with a red satin sash tossed backwards at the neckline, classic Hollywood style, and gave this a yes vote.
