Wear or Die: print dresses

Print_dresses

We were a little bit stumped as to what to give you for this week’s Wear or Die, so we decided to take a look inside the Fashion Police jail and see what we could come up with. As you can imagine, there was no shortage of ugly items there, but we finally narrowed it down to the selections you can see above. On the left, a Matthew Williamson dress from July of 2007, on the right, a dress from Topshop’s Archive Collection of the same month.

Both of these dresses had us reaching for the Fashion Police handcuffs, but we’re now letting them out on parole, purely so you can play Wear or Die with them. You’re welcome!

The rules of the game: you must choose one item to wear, or… well, we kill you. Death is not an option. Neither is wearing the item in the privacy of your own home. These must be worn in public, exactly as they’re shown here. Which will you choose?

The one on the left. At least it has color and some shape to it…sigh. Though with black tights and shoes I might be able to pull it off.

  2. Evelyn says:

I’ll wear the one on the left…but only on Halloween with my other hippy accessories!

  3. Luve says:

I have to admit that I really like the Matthew Williamson dress… sorry … This is the kind of dress that looks great with black boots and a simple black vest. Am I banned now?

  4. Am says:

The topshop dress – the colourful one looks too care in the community for my liking…

  5. Hannah says:

You are sooo cruel… erm, I think I’d have to go with Matthew Williamson, because the Topshop ones remind me of a pair of curtains in the 70s… plus it’s maxi.

  6. Mousykins says:

I’d go with Matthew Williamson. I think I could manage that (although I’d REALLY want to cut the sleeves off). The other looks like some kind of musty, ancient gown you’d find in your gran’s attic.

  7. Celeste says:

Definately the colorful one on the left, at least there’s some shape, and it looks like something I would be amused to find in the back of a thrift store. Not horrified by like the one on the right.

  8. hiunna says:

i would chose the one on the right ,i would keep the rest of the outfit black and i d like to add some black eyeliner. also i think preppy hair would balance its girliness.

  9. Kate says:

I actually quite like the shape and lines of the one on the left, though of course the color is horrid :-P But with the right black boots, sheer black tights…. maybe a simple cardi on top…I think it could be managed.

  10. peachfish says:

The one on the left, with cowboy boots, belted, sleeves rolled up, unbuttoned with a little tank top underneath. I could totally get away with it in texas.

  11. Natasha says:

The short one. I’m afraid the one on the right would just eat me alive!

  12. Arielle says:

The one on the left. The one on the right just seems like something you’d see worn in a bad 70’s horror movie.

  13. Helen says:

the colorful one. With some zany tights (perhaps striped?) and obnoxious boots. If I am going to wear that, I’m going to go full throttle.

  14. edith says:

    The Matthew williamson
You might put me in jail but actually I OWN the same outfit (OK, not the same but with short sleeves and slightly shorter hemline). I absulutely LOVE IT. The pattern is much more colourful in real life, the picture is a bit deceiving

  15. b. says:

I’d wear the one on the right, whilst pretending I’d got a role in Jane Eyre as Bertha Mason. That way I’d have an excuse if anyone asked me why I’m dressed as a mad woman.

  16. Eva says:

The one to the right – maybe even with a turban and some Biba-style make-up and hair?

  17. Rock Hyrax says:

I’d go for the musty ancient gown, though I’d add a belt if that’s permitted and try and make it look more Victorian (or Edwardian or whatever). The one on the left reminds me of crimplene things in the seventies that I think were called “house dresses”.

  18. Summermoon says:

I’d go for the one of the left. As people above me have said, you could make it look almost presentable with the right shoes and a belt.

  19. Gemma says:

The Matthew Williamson one. With a faux fur gilet, tights, slouchy boots and a big floppy hat. If you’re going to wear it, you may as well go all out.

  20. Stephanie W says:

The one on the right. I really think I could pull off the one on the left better, but certain color combinations give me bad migraines. And that would be the left one.
And if I must wear it in public, hello spontaneous costume party!

  21. Lauren says:

It would have to be the one on the left.I could wear black tights and black boots and a nice cardi and belt with it and it might actually look quite good!
