Dress of the Day: Marc by Marc Jacobs cut-out polka dot dress

marc 60s dress Dress of the Day: Marc by Marc Jacobs cut out polka dot dress We’re still loving the 60s-inspired shift dresses that are cropping up everywhere at the moment and this polka-dot dress from the Marc by Marc Jacobs label is a great example of all the things we love about this style, from the simple neckline to the gathered sleeves and short skirt.

That skirt will, of course, be too short for many of us, although the fact that it’s shown here on an undoubtedly statuesque model probably makes it look shorter than it would be on mere mortals. If you’d prefer not to have to worry about flashing your knickers all the time, though, a pair of opaque tights will do the job.

We’re less enthused about the back of this dress, which is plain black with a cut-out at the neck, and we’d have preferred it if Marc could’ve resisted the impulse to be “clever” and just made the back as simple as the front, but if you’re unfazed by the difference in styles, this is $378 at eLuxury.

  1. I don’t mind the back of it being black so much as I mind that it has this detail on it that looks like it used to be part of a child’s car seat.

  2. While I’m traditionally averse to asymmetry and general kookiness, I actually quite like this dress. And my legs are better than my arms, so I’m all about the short skirts and long sleeves!

  3. I like the dress length and the elbow-length sleeves, but yeah, I’m not crazy about the back. From the back I actually quite like the look of the grey sleeves against the black body, but I’m not keen on the straps, which, as peachfish said, look like part of a child’s car seat.

  4. This one is a miss. It’s horribly ugly, would be terribly unflattering on almost anyone, and just plain drab. Also, your taste in fashion is sick, and I hope you choke on a shellfish!
Hahah, just kidding. :) I don’t care for this dress, but just wanted to say I love this blog and most days adore the DotD. Keep it up!
