We’ve mentioned lace a few times here recently, but now it’s time to find out what you think of it…
Inspired by the likes of Prada and Rodarte, designers have been adding lace to just about everything this season, from tights and leggings to shoes, dresses, skirts and tops. You can wear a little bit of it, as the Miss Selfridge dress above shows, or a whole lot of it, but will you be wearing it at all, we wonder?
Personally, we think this is a look that look either very, very good or very, very bad, depending on the item and how it’s worn. Get it wrong and you can end up looking like a cheap copy of Madonna circa 1983, get it right and it can look rather classy and grown-up. We’re going to leave it up to you to decide which side you’re on – just remember to leave us a comment to tell us what you think!

I love lace! I try and be careful that I don’t like saccharine, or like a grandma, or like a trashy 80s girl, but if done right I think lace is wonderfully sexy – ladylike and a little revealing at the same time
I like lace a lot, provided it is tasteful rather than slutty or old-fashioned. And you have to make sure it isn’t really cheap lace either, because that can get very itchy and unpleasant. I am in love with the lace court shoes in the picture…
I love lace, and for two months I have been looking for the perfect black dress with lace insert. My favorite is the one from Miss Selfridge, but they don’t ship to Norway. I am checking Ebay also, but I haven’t found anything I like yet. I especially like the dresses done with lace sleeves. I have no idea what to wear lace leggings with.
Yes, cheap lace really does look cheap. For that reason I tend to steer far far away from it (my budget is basic) But I do have a lovely Edwardian lace stole inherited from a distant relative – I’ve actually never worn it, because I’ve never had the occasion… Perhaps this is the season to get it out?
sure, I like lace too. I don’t wear it often because I don’t care for wearing high maintenance fabrics, and lace is one of those. It’s nice to look at though
cheap lace = barnsley market
expensive lace = italian widow
that’s how it looks on me anyhow
I really like the Diane von Furstenberg dress style.
Not keen on it. Black lace always reminds me of funerals, white of Madonna. I like the shoes though.
leggings: no frigging way.
Dress: reminds me of the drag outfits that Monty Python wore in their “housewives” sketches.
Other dress: get rid of the shoulder wings and we’ll talk. Especially if the black fabric is a thick jersey.
Shoes: Love ‘em with charcoal pinstripe dress pants and a knit top.
So sayeth Kate.
I like lace. A lot, actually, especially the cream-to-tea-stained coloured variety.
I can’t say I like any of the picks above, though.
i love lace! it’s flattering and can add class to just about anything you wear. i have a dress that has lace on the top and, although i was hesitant to wear it at first, i got A LOT of compliments when i wore it.
