Thong back bodysuits: the ‘noughties’ version of the nineties “classic”

We should have seen this coming. We did, after all, anticipate the return of the bodysuit, and back in July, when we broke the horrible news that the body suit was making a comeback, we found ourselves mussing on the things we’d hated about the "body" back in the nineties. Chief of these was the sheer discomfort caused by the "popper" fastenings that would fasten under the crotch, creating an uncomfortable bulge where no bulge should be, chafing horribly if you tried to wear them with jeans or trousers, and giving you a wedgie if you tried to wear them with anything that wasn’t a thong underneath.

It was only a matter of time before someone came up with the ideal way to get around this, wasn’t it? We can just imagine that lightbulb moment when someone in a board room somewhere (probably stroking a white cat at the time and sipping from a glass of Scotch on the rocks) said, "I know! Rather than wearing it with underwear, the bodysuit can be the underwear! And it can be thong underwear!"

And thus was born the thong back body suit. We have to admit, it does solve some of the problems we’d hitherto had with the "body", but we’re still going to be saying a firm "no" to it, for two reasons:

1. It’s a body suit

2. When we visit the bathroom – particularly public bathrooms – we prefer not to have to strip naked, thanks.

If you have no such qualms, however, this is £40 at ASOS.

To add to the horror, think of these worn with low-rise jeans.

Hahaha, I totally rocked the bodysuits for most of 1991 and all of 1992. And you don’t have to strip naked to go to the bathroom–that’s what the crotch snaps are for! I would not, however, wear them now, even with the “improved” back.

Amanda, this doesn’t have the crotch poppers, though – it’s a pull-on one, so would have to be totally removed! I think poppers on a thong might be even *more* of a crime, although mainly a crime against comfort!

cant fathom how you girls cant appreciate the style, comfort and flair of bodysuits. they are a perfect layering piece that can add allure to most any outfit. the array of colors, fabrics and fits they are or WERE available in allowed unlimited possibilities to create ones own look. i have adored them since grade school! they were never intended to be worn over panties! if properly fitted the snaps become more of a convenience than a discomfort and provide a clean tailored look. i will admit that ive experienced my share of ride-ups torwards the end of a long day as well as the dreaded whale tail when the rise of my jeans was a trifle low but the same is true of my panties. also the boys tend to respond to undy flashes in a most agressive an

d passionate way. I SO ENJOY TEASING BOYS!!! sadly it is difficult to find this versitale and seductive garment these days. its a shame you girls have chosen to favor boyshorts leaving “girls” like me to search endlessly f

or this elusive and seductive garment.
