When it comes to London Fashion Week, the show we’re always most interested in isn’t necessarily that of any of the big name designers or up-and-coming young stars (although those are always interesting too, of course). No, it’s the Topshop Unique show. Why? Well, because this is the show that, more than any other, gives us some degree of what real women will actually be wearing next season, and by “real women” we don’t mean fashionistas and people who see their clothes as a sublime, artistic expression of their inner selves, but, you know, women who shop in Topshop.
And what will the Topshop-shopping woman on the street be wearing in Spring/Summer 09, we hear you ask? Well, a litany of fashion crimes, basically. Double denim. Mom jeans. Jumpsuits. With hearts on them. In short, we’re canceling all annual leave for Fashion Police Officers, because we think next summer is going to be busy…
But of course, that’s just us. Take a look under the jump to see some more images from the Topshop Unique show, and make up your own mind…

We think this is a show that will remind lots of people of what it was like to grow up in the 80s, complete with Cindy Lauper-style hair bows and lots of denim. Speaking for ourselves, we’re pretty much done with fashion taking inspiration from the 80s now, and think if decades must be revived, it’s time for another one to have a turn. The 40s, maybe. We’d like that.
Do you like this, though? Will you be buying if and when the collection hits the store?

those us who were actually alive and dressing ourselves in the 80′s know better than to ever be caught dead (much less alive and photographed) in outfits like these. if you choose to wear them, they WILL come back to haunt you one day.
I like those blue sunglasses, though.
Burn it. Burn it all.
I would love to see more 40s fashion around, but would quickly become very poor…
come on now, why wouldn’t you wear a denim bikini top or heart-print pajama jeans out in public?
seiously now topshop, why?
ok, really. who even comes UP with this?! it’s dreadful. i thought these trends died ages ago!
I like the purple boots and the sunglasses. The rest is absolutely hideous. I think they’re punking us.
Ew. And to think I was excited that Topshop was coming stateside.
well in the last row, the denim dress is pretty cute. im not too fond of all that denim either.
Not even the models look good in it, and that’s not easy to accomplish..
I’d vote for the 40s to, or maybe the 30s
Not impressive. How amy winehouse is that last one? I don’t mind ugly and wierd and disturbing, but this isn’t even very creative. The denims are sloppy, the cuts are poor…that denim bikini top doesn’t even fit…generally the scarves are hideous and they distract from the clothes…it’s like a 14 year old in 1988 would dress…you know, that super awkward phase where they’re still working out how to apply trends…what a mess *shakes head*
Why? *cries*
Yeah, these just seem sloppy to me. =/ Not impressed. Also, the double denim… ewwww!
Well, it appears that all those old sci-fi TV shows and movies were wrong: the future will not look like the ’70s. It will look like the ’80s.
Why does the last model have one lop-sided breast? It must be a really badly designed “top” if it makes models look uneven… eww to the whole collection ’cause I hate blue denim. Indigo all the way – much more flattering.
You could have used all three of these as Wear or Die posts
Gag
AAAAAAAAAH! My eyes! My eyes!!!!
Why do all the models have to look so scary?
When does the collection hit the stores/website? I’m dying for the black boots!
