Although it may not be the case in other parts of the world, here in the UK, kaftans (of "caftans", if you prefer) tend to be associated with that hippy vibe of the 1970s, and worn only as loungewear, or swimswuit coverups, if at all.
This week, though, in the course of policing the web as usual, we stumbled upon not one, but two items described as "kaftans", and while we’d hardly describe that as a "trend" yet, we are wondering if it’s the start of one.
We’ll be honest here: when we first laid eyes on Anna Sui’s $944 caftan at Shopbop, we checked our calendars in horror, to make sure Halloween hadn’t crept up on us, unawares. There’s something just a little bit witchy about it, no? Kookai’s kaftan dress, meanwhile, is a little more fitted, although still not something we can see ourselves buying, especially not for £115.
What do you think of these, readers? Are they something you would wear?
