As most of our regular readers know, The Fashion Police are big fans of heels, and the higher the better. We’re well known for our impractical footwear choices, and will generally choose style over comfort every time, although we have to admit that when it comes to walking the police dog on a cold, dark winter morning, we’re probably going to leave the stilettos at home and go for something warm and comfortable instead.
Which side of the shoe fence do you sit on, though? Do you go for the high heels and big platforms of something like the ‘Aries’ platforms above, by Terry de Havilland, or do you shun the stiletto in favour of the comfort of a good pair of Ugg boots or something similar? What’s your shoe style?
(Both of the shoes pictured above are available from Shudoo.co.uk)

Well, I find high heels really difficult to walk in! So be default it has to be low heeled shoes for me – not exactly all flats but two inches is the highest I can go. I do have some 4 inch heels, but can only wear them for dinner dates where I sit down for most of the evening, and can get a taxi home!
Well right now, as I’m sat, cold & ill, in bed with a cup of tea the uggs are looking mighty appealing buttt let’s face it a pair of wooly boots are never going to compare to a killer pair of heels
I love heels… but I have young children, and carrying or chasing small children while wearing 4 inch heels is a Bad Idea. Eventually, when my husband and I regain a social life away from the children, I will happily return to wearing high heels, but until then, I’m stuck with practical, comfortable footwear (which for me means flat or low-heeled sandals for most of the year).
Can’t a girl have both?
I’m a total addict to Born shoes and LL Bean dress boots.
Comfortable shoes no longer need to be ugly, and cute shoes don’t have to be uncomfortable! I love Born’s fall line this year, and they have lots of heels with their signature comfort footbed and quality!
Comfort! But I do lust after heels. I have plantar facialis, so it’s impossible for me to wear heels. I recently had a dance performance in heels, but that was only with one foot heavily taped up.
While I wouldn’t be caught dead in Uggs or anything else that resembles muckalucks, I do lean towards comfort and have a lovely collection of cute flats. And if I could afford Prada loafers, I would buy them in every style and colour and them give them each a name and take them on picnics.
I can’t walk in heels – I’m trying to teach myself but it’s not taking well… a pity, because I think high heels look incredible. So I have to stick to low shoes – I rarely wear flats either, because they hurt the archs of my feet. So I go for sneakers and low-heeled boots most of the time.
I’m all about the fashion! I’ll buy cushioned insole to help ease the pain if I have to…
Just like most of the girls before, I love love love heels, esp. peep toes, BUT I don’t get to wear them often as running around the campus the whole day cannot be recommended in heels. Plus everyone would stare at me and it’s freaking cold in Germany… But when going out I like to dress up (usually overdressed, but who cares) and get my heels some fresh air
The pain is totally worth it
I can’t wear flat shoes. flat shoes makes my ankle and heel hurt really bad, so I mostly wear shoes with heel, but it can’t be to high or thin. I usually try to find wedge-heels.
Platforms all the day, night and everywhere if possible.
Also I would NEVER buy Ugg branded boots. They are the worst brand for sheepskin boots: they are really expensive but they aren’t even made in australia (it’s cheap chinese stuff). For less than half their price you can buy quality boots like Koolaburra.
Comfort first. Usually a cute pair of flats. I put in foam arch supports. I am looking for a nice pair of sneakers also, that can look stylish at the same time. ( with arch support!)
I just go for shoes that look good. So it doesn’t matter to me whether they are comfortable or not. I just wear them!
I was all about heels until I became a mama. Now, it is all about comfort, but I still would never buy Uggs… or anything else remotely resembling them.
Heels all the way. Preferably really thin and delicate stilettos. Everywhere – no excuses. You actually get used to it fairly quickly, so your feet don’t hurt. As someone already said, I think my feet hurt sometimes when I have to wear flats.
I do own a few pairs of flats, but I wear them only if I have no choice, like if there’s a 20 inch layer of snow
That said, even my sensible flats aren’t as ugly as uggs.
I go for comfort. I don’t look right in sexy shoes and I don’t think MOST people look right in sexy shoes. Like all fashion, if it doesn’t look comfortable, it doesn’t look good. And it will only look comfortable if it IS comfortable. You can tell by how one is walking…if they’re teetering or “stomping” or taking little baby steps…I look at her and think “who are you trying to impress, you silly girl?”
Gokarm, I think it rarely has to do with shoes; it mostly has to do with practice. After a while you can walk even in 5 inch platforms as if you were barefoot.
I’d have to say I’d so for the heels. I’ve walked in 6 inch heels before without dying or falling over. I have no children so I’d wear heels, if I had the time to go out and shop for them. Most of the time I’m wearing my skinny jeans with a pair of flats.
