Style on Trial: Alexander McQueen knit military dress
The Fashion Police love military style fashion, which is particularly great during the winter months on coats, boots and knit dresses.
We don’t love it quite so much on this knit dress, by Alexander McQueen, however, because when we look at this dress – especially from a distance – we don’t so much see “military style” as “scary skeleton, with its ribs on show”.
Is that just us?
We can totally see where McQueen was going with this, of course, and we really want to like it, but somehow that skeleton association is proving hard to shake. What do you think? Do you love the very bones of this dress, or does it make you see bones when you look at it?
I find it a bit painful to look at actually…
Not really seeing bones but not loving it either, shame it’s got potential with different detailing
I think I’d really like the top half of this dress as a top, to wear over white trousers maybe. But as a dress… nah.

Skeleton. Bad.
this would go really well with the creepy skeleton line of luggage he did for Samsonite Black Label
gross!
Geeze, I love military influence and yes I did used to think my high school marching band uniform was sexy (on the guys, at least) but this is not military influence, this is SKELETON influence. It’s those long lines over the legs… There’s a reason stripes go on the SIDES of uniform pants.
Top half as a jacket would be awesome, as a whole dress…a bit OTT.
It looks like something that the fire guy from that “Avatar :The Last Airbender” show would wear. D:
Skeleton that hasn’t quite been picked clean yet.
It makes me think of Sgt. Pepper gone goth.
THANK YOU! I knew I could count on The Fashion Police to see that this is as hideous as I thought. I totally saw skeletons, and I still am now. All. Wrong.
Oh, and Chica, I think this is available as a blazer too.
It would be awesome for a “Dia de los Muertos” themed party.
jilly, you are spot on!! hahaha
