Style on Trial: short parchute dress by All Saints

parachute dress Style on Trial: short parchute dress by All SaintsOne of our many fashion prejudices involves any item of clothing that could have the word “parachute” used to describe it. We’re sure parachutes can be tons o’fun and all (if, of course, you’re not a bunch of sissy cowards, like us), but as clothing, we’re just not impressed. And we’re not trying to suggest here that everything you wear should be figure-hugging and designed to “show off your curves”, at the tabloids would say – just that dresses generally shouldn’t be able to double as tents, should you take them on a camping trip. Or, indeed, as parachutes.

From this, you will have gathered that we’re not going to be buying All Saint’s short parachute dress.Or, indeed, the long version, for that matter. But what about you, readers? Does the, admittedly unusual, design of this dress make you want to spend £225 on it? If so, it’s available for pre-order now, via the All Saints website, as is the long version, which is an extra £100.

  1. Well I know I’m going to be in the minority, but I love it. It would look good on NO one but a very tall, very skinny woman, but with a loooong pearl necklace and heavily make-uped eyes…I’m digging the look. Of course, I really like the whole “Rick Owens/Alexander Wang” aesthetic. I don’t know, it’s better than your typical hipster gear, isn’t it?

  2. Hmmmm whilst I appreciate the desire to vary from more typical styles I can’t quite get past the fact that it really does just look like a parachute
Not something I’d wear but maybe its one of those ‘looks better on’ items
    Who knows

  3. I would only wear it if it also functions as an ACTUAL parachute. How much fun would be to exit a cocktail party by flinging yourself off the roof?

  4. I generally don’t like parachute clothing, but this dress actually isn’t too bad. I would never wear it, but I like the design.

  5. It looks very sloppy to me – though I find the long version to be far, far worse. Sure, a beautiful woman is still going to be a beautiful woman wearing this dress, but why would you want to look like a beautiful woman wearing a dress made from squashing a parachute into something vaguely resembling a gown?

  6. It’s hard to judge without seeing it on a model, but as gokarm said, it’s probably only flattering on that body type. I would look like I’m doing the Walk of Shame in a garbage bag I found among remnants of last night’s party.

  7. The long one is far worse. The shorter version is not too bad, but I just don’t see why anyone would wear it with so many pretty dresses around. AND it’s pretty expensive as well.

  8. I agree with gokarm. The short version is cool, but will only look good on the super skinny.
Not for me but I appreciate it.
The long one however, just looks messy.

  9. I can’t quite decide why, but it’s kind of cute. Maybe it’s the neckline…maybe it’s the layer-esque look that’s feminine without being frilly. This would do nicely with a skinny belt, I think, and on a skinny bod.

  10. I deteste parachute clothing in general but this takes the biscuit. It looks like you’re wearing a half-empty water balloon.

  11. Blech. Not only is the shape strange and the hanging cords fug, but the whole thing probably makes a whole lot of noise as you walk. Nooo thanks!

  12. I’ve actually tried on the parachute dress, and although it is very difficult to assemble, once done in the right way, with a pair of military boots for a casual look, or high heel structured shoes for going out, it surprising looks great rather than looking like you’re wearing a tent. It’s actually made of 10metres of fabric which i find quite interesting, and it’s not even that heavy, although it is a dress that i would probably only wear once.

  14. I have just bought the short parachute dress by All saints and what a mistake i have made.
Apart from the fact i still have no idea on how to get the dress on it is far too heavy and big and i hate it.
I feel it is a total mistake by All saints and they should warn people on how hard it is to put on.
Don’t buy total waste of £160.00!!!

  15. I’ve bought this for my prom! And I love it. It’s beautiful and different. Not everyone has to look the same.

  16. I just bought this dress, and although it IS a bit heavy, it’s stunning! If you’re looking to stand out, and not like everyone else, this is the dress for you. It’s not sloppy, it’s very feminine and can be structured to suit any body type using the cords. To Jessica McMullen : you think allsaints should warn buyers that this dress is difficult to put on ? It comes with an assembly and care guide !! You should realize that when you’re purchasing a dress of all things, that if it comes with step by step instructions, it may be a bit more difficult to put on , then most dresses. HELLO ? I think AllSaints is pretty straight forward with giving you a heads up on this one ! Anyway, in closing, this dress is PHENOMENAL once you get it structured and tied the way you want it . Beautiful !
