Style on Trial: Junya Watanabe stretch jersey top

Jerseytop

Maybe it looks better in person. And by “better” we mean, “less like a couture version of a straight jacket”, because let’s face it, this jersey top by Junya Watanabe just doesn’t look comfortable to us. At all. In fact, it looks a lot like it would force you to do everything one-handed, your right arm strapped to your side and only the left one free to move.

We’re sure that wouldn’t actually be the case, of course, but we’re right handed here, and we wouldn’t want to risk it. What about you? Is this a crime of fashion, do you think, or just a quirky take on a winter essential? Would you pay £310 for it?

Well, something about the “psycho-chic” bondage thing appeals to my dark and depraved soul and it’s just in time for the inevitable influence of The Dark Knight’s Joker. But it’s more of a counter-culture piece, I’d think. Not for your average chic fashionista.

At first glance I thought it was a wrap of sorts. Now that I know it is a restrictive piece of fabric, blech.

I love it. If I had the money I would sooo buy it.
No, actually I’ll wait for the H&M rip off.

    okay who would buy this.,..

Am I weird? I kinda like it. Yes, it is unfunctional and prohibitively expensive (hell, I wouldn’t pay 130 pounds for /anything/, let alone a gimmicky garment), but the idea I like. It does look like a wrap or a shawl – in a understated, Danish design way.

  6. I actually think this is one of those things that could look a lot better on than it does in the picture. I’m still torn. But given the price, it’s not something I’m going to have to make a decision on anytime soon :)
