You paid HOW much? Dolce & Gabbana’s David Bowie t-shirts

david bowie tee You paid HOW much? Dolce & Gabbanas David Bowie t shirtsDesigner t-shirts: we just don’t get them. Seriously, is anyone else seeing a pair of average band t-shirts up above? They’re not, you know. These are designer t-shirts, by Dolce & Gabbana, and that’s why they cost £135/ each. Or we’re assuming that’s why they cost that much, anyway: we can’t imagine that printing job would’ve cost that much to produce after all…

Can someone explain this to us? Because it seems to us that if you particularly wanted a David Bowie t-shirt (because, you know, you were actually a David Bowie fan, not because you were a fashion victim who thought, “Hey, this is by Dolce & Gabbana, so it must be stylish!”), you could pick one up for much less money, and it wouldn’t look a whole lot different from these. Are we wrong? Why does it take Dolce & Gabbana to come up with the revolutionary idea of sticking a screen print onto the front of a t-shirt? And why does it cost £135? Because somehow, we’re not sure it’ll be Bowie fans who’ll be buying these. We think it’ll be the aforementioned designer label fans, and that’s one of the things we hate most about the world of fashion: the way some people will buy anything at any price, just because it’s “designer”.

So many questions: anyone got the answers?

  1. Well yeah, I like them, but I’d like them a lot better in the $25 range. £135 is kinda funny to me, actually. Its so ridiculous, I’m beyond offended.

  2. I bought a men’s David Bowie tshirt (because he’s awesome) from HMV for a tenner. It’s a bit big, but I customised it by shortening the sleeves and slashing the neck and now it looks great. Those, while a nice cut, are taking the piss.

  3. I´m a fan and got my Bowie shirt which kind of looks like the gabbana one (even better!)
from H&M for 10 euros! It has the the same Aladinsane print on it.
