When winter rolls around, The Fashion Police start stocking up on knit dresses, and if we had our way, we know which one we’d be stocking up on right now: Temperley London’s ‘Roison’ knit dress is the perfect “day to evening” piece for the colder weather – wear it in the daytime with some knee high boots and dress it up for dinner with heels and a pretty necklace.
Dresses like this are so easy to wear, and this one should be particularly easy to wear, given that it’s made of a luxurious mix of silk, merino wool and cashmere.
Of course, those fabrics don’t come cheap, and neither does the Temperley London label: this is $975 and available from Saks.
Let us just start this post by stating up front that The Fashion Police would never pay £550/$1000 for a top. Never. In fact, it makes us feel faint just thinking about that – pass the smelling salts, would ya?
With that said, this is a fantasy buy, with “fantasy” being the operative word, and this little purple top by Celine is pretty cute, in a simple-but-stylish kinda way. We love the ribbon trim around the neckline, which is, of course, the stand-out detail of this, and we agree with Net-a-Porter’s assessment that it would look good with jeans or a pair of tailored black pants.
We’ve already talked about the faux fur which has already started to appear in stores ahead of the winter season, but it’s starting to look like sheepskin is going to be another big look in outerwear. Topshop aren’t the only label stocking Mongolian-style gilets and jackets at the moment, but so far they are the only one to be stocking pink sheepskin (as far as we know), and we’re wondering what you all think of this?
The gilet shown above is currently available at Topshop.com for £85, while the jacket is £150, and for some reason when we look at them, we think of Paris Hilton, Eddie from Absolutely Fabulous, and Playboy bunnies. We think it’s the sheer pinkness of the things, although we’re not sure we’d like them any better if they were the colour of an actual sheep, come to think of it.
Would you, though? These pieces of pink outerwear stand accused of Crimes Against Fashion, jurors. Will you find them guilty or innocent?
It’s no secret that The Fashion Police have a dislike of rubber/plastic shoes that goes slightly beyond rational. Crocs, jelly shoes, you name it – we hate ‘em all, and we’re not willing to make an exception for these gold rubber brogues by Melissa, because … well, because they’re rubber brogues. Gold ones. And we just can’t think of a single occasion on which these would be the preferred choice of footwear. Even Crocs, after all, are acceptable as gardening shoes, or on the feet of people who have no other choice but to wear them, but these? When and why would you ever need a pair of gold rubber brogues, we wonder? Sure, they’d be waterproof in very wet weather, but so would lots of shoes that don’t look like this, no?
In the spirit of full disclosure, we’re going to hold our hands up here and say we don’t particularly like brogues anyway, regardless of what they’re made of. We can find nothing to love about that sensible, lace-up look, so we wouldn’t be rushing to buy these even if they weren’t made of rubber. Given that they are, though, we’re keen to hear what you, our beloved Fashion Jury think. Are these just what you’ve been looking for all your life? Would you wear them? If so, they’re £50 at Browns.
Slouchy and slightly structured – now there’s a handbag that could win us over!
We love the aforementioned satisfying slouchiness of this Marni handbag, but we also like that cute little oval handle, which adds an extra dollop of style. If you don’t like to carry your handbag in your actual hands, however, this also comes with a detachable shoulder strap, so you can sling it over your shoulder when you need to.
What we don’t like is the price: this is £935 at Browns
We know high street retailers often like to take "inspiration" from the designers, but this seems to be a case of the high street taking inspiration from itself, as Dorothy Perkins (left) and Oasis (right) produce these very similar looking satin bow tops. The price isn’t quite so similar – Oasis are charging £45 and Dotty’s just £25, and the Dorothy Perkins top also comes in green and purple.
Personally, we think we’d like these tops better if they came with just a few less bows (yes, you did read that correctly), but what do you think? Which one would you buy, if either?
Hey Dollface wants to know if you’d ever spend $1000 on a face cream? Forever Amber’s dog learns how to fly. Shoewawa finds the perfect pair of shoes for dog lovers. Keeping It Realtor finds a bed that’s a little bit… special. And the Grumpy Old Bloggers wonder what all the fuss is about cows?
Now, we know winter is well on the way, bringing with it all of those “No white after Labor Day” rules, but as we all know, those rules were made to be broken, and this white ruffle sleeved dress by Alice + Olivia was just too pretty not to qualify for Dress of the Day.
Net-a-Porter suggest wearing this with black opaque tights to make it more season-appropriate, but if you don’t want to do that, you could always just store it away for next summer – if you can bear spending money on a dress and not wear it immediately that is.
If you just can’t resist, this is £295 at Net-a-Porter.
