Richard Chai for Target: your thoughts?

Richard_chai_for_target

As most of you will already know, Richard Chai is the latest designer for Target’s ‘Go International range. The clothes (some of which are shown above) will be available in-store from this August, and it’s taken us a couple of weeks to get round to talking about them with you because… well, because there just doesn’t seem to be a whole lot to say. The clothes are nice. We like them. We particularly like the shades of purple used here, which will make these nice summer-to-fall pieces, but although we’d probably buy some things, like the boyfriend cardigan and Bermuda shorts, for instance, the problem we have with them is that they’re just regular old bermuda shorts and cardigans as far as we can see, and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot here to mark this collection out as "designer".

Of course, the prices will obviously reflect this, and we have to bear in mind that Target needs its clothes to be as commercial as possible, so with that in mind, we’d say that yes, we like Richard Chai’s work here, and would probably buy some of it, given the prices, but we’re not exactly breathless with anticipation over it.

Over to you: what do you think?

oh, I love it! I particulary like the blue outfit, actually. The whole look is more creative and focused than I’m used to seeing from target.

  2. Daisy says:

Love love LOVE the purple trenchcoat!

  3. The says:

I think they are great!!! Sometimes less is more, those are simple and elegant…enough with those flashy clothes americans tend to like!

  4. Danielle says:

Not all Americans like flashy clothes *slightly put off*
I LOVE that purple trench!! I must have it.

  5. Natasha says:

Very nice, especially the trench. The far right one reminds a bit of Chloe Sevigny though, and that’s never a compliment.

  6. I went to check it out, and some of the pieces are cute, but ill-fitting!

  7. randimae says:

Honestly, a lot of the designs look really amateur.

  8. what? says:

Uhm… not all Americans like tonnes of sequins and glitter… in fact, Americans love Abercrombie, which is entirely unremarkable.

  9. Theresa says:

Only feeling the Trench. Nothing else for me.

  10. Lol! Way to offend an entire nation, “the”! Of course all Americans don’t like sequins!

  11. Alexandra says:

Will they be available online? I NEED that coat it is perfect!

  12. Adiel says:

I like the color scheme of this line.

I’ve been following their Go Int’l campaign from the start and Richard Chai’s wears are by far my fav . The attention to details, modern simplicity of his clothes are wearable, fashionable and you can’t beat the price. This is one designer you should be keeping your eye on. It’s obvious to any fashionista that he’s going places!!! As for the Bermuda Shorts comments, if you see them in person, you’d be surprised at all the details involved. Looks better then a pair I was eyeing at Barneys NY by another designer. I nearly purchased the entire line – luv luv luv it!
PS. Based on the quality of this collection, no one would ever think they were purchased Tarjay!!!
