Gluejeans: they’re held together with glue, you know…
Still wearing jeans made the old fashioned way – with thread? Well now, that’s just so last week according to Dutch denim manufacturers Gluejeans, who’ve started making jeans held together with – yes, you guessed it – glue.
Now, we know what you’re thinking, but apparently they’ve been testing these for two years now and are sure the glue is durable and will hold your jeans together. They also think the contrast of the thick, coloured glue against denim is what will make these a fashion winner, but we think we’d need to see them in the flesh (or "in the denim", rather) to be able to make any kind of judgment on that.
These aren’t stocked in stores as yet (although they will be soon), so if you’re desperate to get your hands on a pair, you’re going to have to visit the company’s showroom in Amsterdam – you’ll find details on their website.
So, glued-together jeans: the fashion of the future, do you think?
But what is the point? Is it cheaper? More eco-friendly? Or just a gimmick?
Purely a design thing, Sian, as far as I can make out – their website isn’t particularly user-friendly, I’m afraid!
Ha! We used to ‘cheat’ like this sometimes at college – I guess the guys at Gluejeans never stopped!
By we I don’t mean it n the royal sense – just other students and myself…
I really think it’s cool, but I probably won’t be sporting this look. I do know a few people who would though..
I give kudos to any brand who tries to think outside the box and give the public something fresh.
What happens when you put them in the dryer and the glue melts? Their website gives me a headache. There’s nothing trendy about forcibly resizing my browser window! >(
I’m not sure… They look fine, but without a major advantage over the traditional thread (as Sian said – cheaper or more eco-friendly), I don’t really see how they plan to conquer the market.
If the glue on the final product is applied as sloppily as it looks in the picture, I vote “no” on these.
Looks like they’re more of an art project than commercially viable, at this point. They’ve launched during fashion week, and their site has some odd clips of spoon-headed figures.
That said, I’m SO dropping by this week. Living practically next to their atelier.
I’m still not sure about these. As I said, I think I’d need to see them in person to see how much of a difference the glue actually makes. Interesting idea, though.
I’ve heard of this being done before, or maybe it was heat-welding, or something like that.
I don’t think it’ll make a difference in how they hold together or anything, but I think it looks so sloppy and ugly! It looks like someone painted lines on the jeans with that puff-paint stuff for t-shirts!
