Dress of the Day: Pink ‘Paper Bag’ prom dress from River Island

prom dress Dress of the Day: Pink Paper Bag prom dress from River Island This dress definitely isn’t going to be to everyone’s taste, but if you’re a pink, princessy kind of girl, it could be just your bag. Your ‘paper bag’ that is. No, we don’t know why they’ve called it that either, so your guess is as good as ours…

We’re not too keen on puffball skirts in general, but the rose effect on this one makes it interesting, and although there are a few elements of the design we’re still not sure about (the ruched elastic effect around the waist, for instance), we’d be curious to see what this dress would look like on.

So, what do you think: a controversial choice or a worthy Dress of the Day?

It’s £79.99 at River Island.

Crime of Fashion: Office’s ‘Loopy’ pink elastic sandals

office sandals Crime of Fashion: Offices Loopy pink elastic sandals No, we haven’t gone plundering a store selling "sensible" sandals for old age pensioners: we found these in Office. Yes, Office. And OK, they were on sale (£10 per pair folks, roll up, roll up!), but even so, we think they’d have to offer to pay us to wear these, and even then the answer would be, "Are you freaking kidding us?"

Obviously someone will come along soon to tell us that these are "comfy" as all hell, but seriously, people, if you’re not a pensioner, and you’re not registered blind, we can’t think of a single reason why you’d want to wear these, can you?

Outlet shopping online from Mango

mango outlet Outlet shopping online from Mango

We have no idea why it’s taken us until now to discover that Spanish fashion chain Mango has an online discount store, but when we stumbled upon it last night, we have to admit to thinking, "Hmmm, maybe we should just keep this one to ourselves, so that the Fashion Police readers don’t go and snap up all the bargains before us…"

The Fashion Police is a benevolent force, though, (and we already checked to see if there was anything we wanted to buy before posting this), so we feel it’s our duty to show you this little oasis of discounted fashion on the web. As the title says, this is basically an online outlet store: Mango are selling off their past-season stock at prices ranging from about 5 euros upwards, so while you won’t find anything too cutting edge here, you will find some good bargains. For some reason, most things that caught our beady little eyes were 8.99 euros (about £7 GBP), which isn’t bad for things like trousers and knitwear.

Of course, being an outlet, you won’t find everything available in all sizes, but this actually works in favour of those of you who wear a UK size 6, for instance – we found lots of those available, which is more than can be said for most online stores!

Wanted! Pussy bow scarves from Oasis

pussy bow scarves Wanted! Pussy bow scarves from Oasis

We know what you’re thinking here (spooky, no?) and yes, you’re absolutely correct: there is no reason whatsoever that you shouldn’t just tie a normal scarf in a pussy bow, rather than buying a special scarf, like these ones from Oasis, which are £10 each. This post, then, is here mostly as a reminder to ourselves to do that next time we want to add a bit of interest to a plain sweater or other dull outfit: after all, we’re all about the bows here and this would be a cheap n’ chic way to let us wear ‘em…

Style on Trial: Metallic silver trousers from Topshop

silver trousers topshop Style on Trial: Metallic silver trousers from Topshop Metallic trousers baffle us. They seem like the kind of thing you could only ever get away with wearing if you were:

a) a rock star

or

b) a visitor from the future

So, not exactly the most versatile item of clothing you’ll ever own, then.

Topshop are selling these ones for £50, though, and the fact that they’re being sold on the high street makes us wonder if the streets of the UK are about to start looking like the set of some strange sci-fi fantasy, with the sun glinting off thousands of pairs of silver-clad legs.

Is this scene about to become a reality? In other words, would you wear these metallic trews, or are they, in fact, a crime of fashion? Your opinions are welcomed…

Yes, we know: we’re surprised too to see Fergie up for Best Dressed of the Day, but we’ll let you into a secret: we think she looks fabulous in this white dress (which, admittedly, could be doing with a bit of an iron), and we don’t care who knows it. So there.

Also in white, we have Alicia Keys, seen here at the BET Awards, and your other choices for the Best Dressed of the Day gong are Rihanna, in bright yellow at the same awards and Jennifer Love Hewitt, keeping it sleek and simple in a little black dress.

Who’s it gonna be, folks: who was the Best Dressed of the Day?

Dress of the Day: Betsey Johnson Burnout Stripe Organza Strapless Dress

The Fashion Police love Betsey Johnson. Sure, we may have to take her to task now and again over the odd fashion crime or two, but we ask you: who amongst us hasn’t committed crimes of fashion? Exactly.

This dress is typical of that Betsey Johnson, grown-up-Disney-princess style, and we adore it. In fact, we can just imagine swishing around in that floaty skirt at the kind of event we just don’t get invited to. It’s $325, and also available in blue: get it here.
