The 2008 Cannes Film Festival kicked off this week, which means there’ll be opportunities a-plenty to see the stars in all their finery, and probably in their swimsuits too, as they sip champagne on yachts in the Mediterranean, and make The Fashion Police feel insanely jealous.
Kicking off our Cannes coverage, then, on the left we have Natalie Portman all dolled up in purple ruffles (the look of the season, apparently), and on the right, Natalie Portman off to her day job in a bank. We love the purple ruffles and we wouldn’t throw the shoes from the second picture (Which are from Natalie’s own collection for Te Casan) out of the shoe closet, but the shorts suit gets a firm Fashion Police thumbs down on the grounds that office attire has no place at Cannes – unless, of course, you’re an office worker, in which case you’re excused.
What do you think of Natalie’s two looks?

You know, those shorts not only look hideous, they’re making those normally fetching legs look rather wretched as well. Not her best moment, but *nowhere* near as bad as some we’ve seen recently!
I think she looks absolutely lovely in the purple dress (except for the fact that her head looks a little bobbly, you know). The suit shorts are wretched but the shoes, fab? Where can we get those!?
I think the shorts are cute and they would have worked better if she had a more tailored jacket.
I don´t like any. The purple dress looks kinda shapeless to me and the office outfit doesn´t make my day, but the shoes are very very nice on both pictures.
The Ex – the shoes are from Te Casan:

The shorts’ length is all wrong. And maybe she should have lightened up for day? The purple dress is not that flattering, it seems to be overwhelming her.
yeah…the baker-girl look just doesnt click.what she could have done was teem the shorts up with a ruffled white shirt or summat and topped it up with a slim waistcoat..
