Dress of the Day: Wheels & Dollbaby Black Jersey Dress with Crisp Cream Pleat

wheels and doll baby Dress of the Day: Wheels & Dollbaby Black Jersey Dress with Crisp Cream Pleat

The answer to the prayers of anyone who’s ever wanted to wear a strapless dress without worrying about it falling down all night, this Wheels and Doll Baby dress isn’t the kind of thing we’d usually go for, but there’s something very ladylike about it that we like – possibly the pussy bow at the neck. This is £200, so it’s not cheap, but if you have an appropriately posh occasion to wear it to, who’s counting?

Style on Trial: White jeans

white jeans Style on Trial: White jeans

They appear in the stores every summer, but most of the women we know approach white jeans with caution – either because they’re worried about getting them stained, they’re worried they’ll be less than flattering on, or they’re just worried they’ll look like Liz Hurley. All are valid concerns, and yet there’s still something about white jeans that makes us wonder if we should really be wearing them.

Well, The Fashion Police HQ is home to a small, but very muddy police dog (We use him to sniff out the Crocs…) so white jeans wouldn’t last more than a few minutes round these here parts. Despite this, we think they can look fabulous worn with a nautical style stripy t-shirt and some bright sandals. In fact, we reckon they can be surprisingly versatile, for those who can get away with them.  What do you think? Do you/would you wear white jeans?

What to Wear to a Music Festival – If you’re Dita Von Teese…

dita von teese What to Wear to a Music Festival If youre Dita Von Teese...

Here in the UK, going to a music festival usually involves getting out the wellies and waterproofs. In more temperate climates, of course, you get to have a little more fun with your outfit. And if you’re Dita Von Teese, well, you just get to wear whatever the hell you like, but preferably something that makes you look a bit like a 50s pin up girl. Every day is dress-up time for Dita, and don’t we just love her for it! Here she is in a print playsuit, cherry necklace and kicky little hat (plus white umbrella to protect that porcelain skin) at the Coachella Music Festival. And not a pair of wellies in sight…

Lampshades: Now being worn as dresses, apparently

marc jacobs dress Lampshades: Now being worn as dresses, apparently Our thanks to Fashion Police Officer Danielle for reporting this Marc Jacobs dress to us.

Danielle points out that this creation is more "lampshade" than it is "dress" and, well, it really is, isn’t it? On the plus side, though, it would make the perfect disguise if you’re ever invited to a house party in a particularly gaudily decorated mansion – just stand yourself in the corner and hope that no one tries to search for your chord to switch you on…

Janet Jackson in The Mysterious Case of the Missing Feet

janet jackson Janet Jackson in The Mysterious Case of the Missing Feet

Would someone care to remind us just when (or why, for that matter) it was that feet went out of fashion? We’ve spotted both Kim Kardashian and Katie Holmes working the "Look! No feet!" look recently, and quite frankly, we’re perplexed. Why are so many stars so keen to present the illusion that they’re standing in quicksand at all times? Are feet so taboo now that we have to cover them up with extra long trousers? What about the SHOES? And also: can you even imagine how filthy the hems of your white pant suit would get from being dragged along the floor all day?

Wait: did we just say, "White pant suit?"?!

Ugly Prom Dress of the Day: the bubble sack

ugly prom dress Ugly Prom Dress of the Day: the bubble sack Quite a few of you have reported this dress to us for Crimes Against Fashion now, and it’s not hard to see why there’s such strength of feeling against it out there in fashion land.

The website describes this as "Gunne Sac Bubble". We’re not sure what the literal translation of that is (anyone?) but it seems rather appropriate anyway, because what we basically have here is a sack made out of bubbles. Which is… interesting.

A mere $99 buys you this dress, folks. Whether you’ll be able to walk in it due to the "My legs have been tied at the thighs, knees and ankles" effect, we have no idea…

If you had £40 to spend on fashion…

corsage dress If you had £40 to spend on fashion... …what would you spend it on? Imagine that this £40 (which is about $80 for the benefit of our US readers) has just landed on your doorstep, a small gift from The Fashion Police. The only rule is that you have to spend it on clothes, shoes or accessories – what would you buy?

For myself, I’d buy Topshop’s jersey corsage dress, which would come in just under my £40 budget at £38. We featured it back in January in one of our ‘What to Wear’ features, but it sold out before I could get my hands on one. Now it’s back in stock, but I have nowhere to wear it, and have been bravely trying to convince myself that it would be a waste to buy it and then just hang it in the wardrobe, unworn. A £40 windfall, though, would let me buy it guilt-free, so it would be my choice, no question.

What would you buy with £40? Link to your chosen item in the comments field, and we’ll try and post all of your picks tomorrow!

Dress of the Day: Donna Ricco floral strapless party dress

floral dress Dress of the Day: Donna Ricco floral strapless party dress The summer(ish) season makes us want to cast our little black dresses and formal frocks aside and dress up in something cute, brightly coloured and cheerful. If it can have some kind of flower on it, that would help too.

That’s why this little blue strapless dress by Donna Ricco is our Dress of the Day this rainy Monday morning. The colour and cuteness managed to put a smile on our faces even after looking at all of those ugly wedding dresses, and the fact that it’s a fairly reasonable $128 gives us even more reason to smile.
