How to Look Bad Naked, with Maison Martin Margiela

maison martin margiela How to Look Bad Naked, with Maison Martin Margiela

You know how every time a designer comes out with a particularly outlandish catwalk collection, all of those people who take their fashion very seriously indeed start rolling their eyes at The Fashion Police and saying that,  of course, it’s art, it’s conceptual, and it’s the artist’s vision we’re supposed to be thinking about, not how we’d actually wear the thing, because obviously it’s never going to go into production anyway?

Someone needs to tell Maison Martin Margiela that: it looks like they missed that memo, because the image above comes, not from the catwalk, but from eLuxury, where you can now buy this strapless body stocking for the bargain price of $745. Sadly, it looks like the eye mask isn’t included in that price, but if you’d actually pay $745 for a few strips of lycra, you might want to buy one anyway, just to try and hide your shame…

  1. come on, this is MARTIN MARGIELA
    don’t get me wrong
i mean, he is an innovator, an artist
he is not just a stylist like Tom Ford. (Tom Ford admitted that he’s just a clever stylist instead of a fashion designer. and he nearly disappeares in the fashion industry now)
admirers are willing to buy his clothes (arts) for collection
Line 0 (Artisanal) presents his concepts best
you may argue that MMM is a fashion label after all. it should be wearable
well MMM is under Disel group now. they start selling items that are more “commercial”. but they are for “brand lovers” only. that’s what several lines of MMM are for.
let’s take Comme des Garcons as an example. (both Rei Kawakubo and Martin Margiela loves to deconstruct garments) CDG sells style and concepts. it has always been anti fashion. a real admirer never buys Comme des Garçons Shirt. understand now?
    notes/reminders/corrections
    - the collection is about “deconstruction/structure/nudity”. i wonder what do you expect.
    - Coco Chanel said, “Fashion is not simply a matter of clothes. Fashion is in the air, born upon the wind. One intuits it. It is in the sky and on the road.” fashion =/= beauty/glamour/luxury (that kind of things)
    - the top and the bottom are sewed on a piece of nude colour cloth. u may call it a bodysuit. there’re artists and celebrities wearing this collection – and i think it works. don’t be so surprised.
    - it is not an eye mask. it’s a pair of sunglasses. as i remember, it comes in different shades like black, blue and clear. it’s very fun.
    my last word is:
    if you love it, buy it;
    if you don’t, why care?
