Sorry, but I really don’t like it!
I think the look only works with tunic-dresses, not fitted ones like this! It just looks silly to me!

been there, done that, it kinda helps if the dress if knee length or shorter, or stick with shirt-dresses

I think the problem with Jennifer Love Hewitt’s ensemble is the colour of the jeans… they don’t work with the dress AT ALL!
Then again wearing, say, white jeans with this dress would have made her legs look too large, so I’m torn.
The dress also seems to be ill-fitting around the bodice, it’s almost too big…

i love it on other people, but not on myself. i’m too short and it makes me look even shorter. i don’t think jlh quite pulled it off, though… i can’t really put my finger on it. she would’ve looked way better without the jeans. maybe the dress/sandals are too cute to be combined with jeans.

No. Never. The extra fabric at the hips (not to mention zippers, pockets, and other sorts of embellishments) make the dress fall funny thus making said person look like a whale.

I do it all the time, but I follow the same rules that Hannah pointed out. It’s a nice casual look, I think. JLH is doing it wrong, though.

Love dresses over jeans! Hannah’s “rules” are spot on. I once tried a dress it over white, straight-leg jeans and it was NOT good!

Sooo 2003. Nothing says, “I feel fat” like a dress over jeans. Even a too-billowy top is not acceptable. I don’t know where women get this idea that if they cover themselves in layers of fabric they’ll look thinner, when really it makes everyone look like frumperella.
