Style on Trial: patterned tights

Patternedtights

Patterned tights were everywhere on the Autumn/Winter catwalks, but this is actually not a winter trend, as they’re starting to pop up in the stores now. So, what do we think of them?

Well, we think it’s all down to the pattern. While some of them can look reasonably good, tights like the cherry print pair in the picture above, for instance, will make you look like you have some kind of terrifying skin disease from a distance, and other patterns can look suspiciously like an all-over leg tattoo. Fine if you’re into that kind of thing, maybe not so fine if you don’t want to look like you got really, really drunk the night you ended up in the tattoo parlour.

We think we’ve pretty much talked ourselves out of following this trend, then, perhaps because we’ve yet to meet a pair of patterned tights we could love unreservedly, but what about you? Fancy some animal print on the old pins?

No, I’m with you. I like them as an amusement but to actually wear them…as you say, it looks like a terrifying skin disease. I like vertical stripes and maybe a small dotted pattern of a modest sort and I think they could play a bit more with colors beyond the flourescents and neutralsI seem to find everywhere…In other words, I’m longing for variety, just not this particular variety.

I love them! But then I am 16. The butterfly ones are lush.

I have a few pairs that don’t make my legs look enormous–like vertical strips and small barely there patterns but in general–no, they are hideous but then I am not too keen on patterns in general. I am a fan of “keep it simple” but then on someone as small as myself most patterns are overkill.

  4. I actually really *want* to like them… I just can’t get passed the whole “skin disease” thing…

i don’t like any of the ones you have posted, but generally, i would wear patterned tights. although, i would wear them ONLY with a completely black outfit, as simple as possible.

  6. I like patterned tights, but these are a bit overwhelming. I’ve found some really nice ones online and at Nordstroms and Dillards. Scroll type designs usually look best that wind up the leg and make it look long and leggy.

Okay, some patterned tights are pretty cool, and I just *love* messing with bright colors to give an outfit that extra oomph. I also light mild patterns, like some stripes or even some wicked spiderweb-print when it’s Halloween, but these particular patterns are most definitely something no one should have to see.

Patterned tights are ugly! They make people look like their legs have some sort of a disease! They are so tacky! The Fashion Police should lock patterned tights up and throw away the key!
