Fashion Trends: Nautical

Nautical

The nautical trend: crisp, clean lines. Navy. Stripes. Anchor necklaces. It’s a trend that comes back every few years, and never really seems to go away completely. We love it – at least in moderation. A striped tee or bag can look great but it’s important to remember that sailor suits are for little kids and fancy dress parties, so it’s lucky that many of the nautical pieces available right now will let you give a nod to the trend without looking like Popeye.

What do you think of the nautical trend? Do you love it as much as we do, or would you rather throw it overboard?

Clothes: Stripe t-shirt, Warehouse;  anchor necklace, DollyDagger; rope belt pencil skirt, Topshop; Half-Sugar heels, LuLus; Large Cozy shoulder bag, Pagliei; Striped Anchor sweater, Forever 21

I’m SICK of the nautical trend. It’s been taken WAY too big by commercial brands, and it should be dead and over. Nautical first showed up in Spring 06, and it was cute, yes. But now it’s so horribly rampant that it’s like being at a costume party 24/7.

  2. Caroline says:

Love it, but I’m hoping to eventually find something a bit less stripy and more retro to channel it (no pun intended…). We larger girls really can’t be doing the stripes!

  3. Blythe says:

Ug! Nautical (and animal print) trends should be made illegal. Here in the Midwest..When I think of nautical, I envision “clearance rack” at the end of the season.

allthough nautical is ridiculous in the midwest for northeaterners who live by the ocean it totally in, combine the ocean that we love (well most of us) and a cute retro trend and we have the perfect outfit you can wear allmost anywhere

I like it. oh and I disagree with the person who said larger woman can’t wear stripes. I’m a larger woman and have loads of strip t.shirts.

  5. buela says:

its great. classic. simple. layer it [with a jacket or sweater] to minimize a less flattering effect if you’re on the bigger side.

I agree its nautical trend is classic.I most impotantly like the nautical stripes combined with floral prints selling at the selfridges.I suppose larger women can try it as it would take away all teh attention that you would otherwise get from the stripe.
